Does running the toolbox minimised to the system tray prevent the PC from rebooting? I've just tried rebooting my PC twice and both times I had to stop the toolbox before the PC would reboot. I only waited a couple of minutes each time so I don't know if I left it longer if it would have rebooted ok, but after I stopped the toolbox it rebooted immediately. Has anyone restarted their PC successfully with it running?

If 'Toolbox' is in the System tray it will not allow a reboot -- if the computer attempts a reboot it will pop up a bubble saying "Cumulus Toolbox is Running" as a gentle reminder. If it is open on screen it will allow a shutdown

I thought that was a good feature :?:

I rely on the 'Toolbox' doing a number of regular tasks so I wanted to make sure I did not shutdown without considering the implications
But hey, its not all about me. LOL

And, please DO NOT remove it - it is an excellent feature... 8-)

Its fine by me if I'm the one rebooing my PC, but sometimes my PC automatically reboots overnight to apply updates. I guess the toolbox will stop that won't it?

Build 40 available

  • Added the option to select where backups taken by the File Editor are stored. Default is in the Cumulus Folder, but can be changed to any location.
  • Backup files now retained for every change and named with the date and an incrementing counter.
  • Add the Standard Web templates files to the File Editor

I'm having trouble getting the SMTP to work. I'm using:

server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465
SSL: Yes
Authenication: yes

I can telnet to the server/port OK, and just tried setting up Outlook Express with the same settings (on the same PC), and that works OK.

The tools gives a 'general failure' error after a minute or so. :(

Any ideas?

Thanks
Mark

Try port 587 -- I use gmail and it works fine on 587 (which is their other supported port).

Thanks David, that works - strange but the setup FAQ I found for Google Apps listed port 465.

Now to see what I can do with this -I want to try and build a SQL DB on my web server for historic queries.

That's great Mark

For some reason Google offer two ports for their SMTP mail, i have never had much success with the first one.

I am doing exactly what you say....I use 'Toolbox' to upload my dayfile.txt just after midnight. I have a PHP script to parse this file and place it in an SQL database. I use 'Toolbox' to call this PHP file (again just after midnight) to populate my SQL table. The result is....http://www.grantownweather.co.uk/historic/historic.php

How hard would it be to make the "stop PC from rebooting" a configurable option?

Thanks for adding the template files, that's going to save me a lot of folder navigation!

Can I confirm that the editor stops you from editing files that require Cumulus to be stopped, like cumulus, ini?

If so, I noticed that if I select a .txt file and get the edit options and then select the .ini file, the edit options are still available. I haven't tried editing the .ini file with cumulus open via this method though. (I'll ask on the newly formed "Daj appreciation forum" if anyone else has, www.daj-appreciation-forum.com :D )

My logic must be slightly wrong -- it should not allow you to edit any files while Cumulus is running. It will however allow you to edit the web templates.

Something must be slight awry with the logic in the button

Build 41 Available
  • Added Auto and manual pruning of the realtimelog.txt
  • you can now allow/deny Windows to shutdown if 'Toolbox' is minimized to the system tray
  • fixed a logic bug when using the File Editor -- Web files can be edited at any time. All others only when Cumulus is not running
I am keen for someone with a non-UK date format to test this.

realtime always stores the date as dd/mm/yy, but I do convert your local date back to a UK format to compare the two so hopefully it will work

Enhancement request! Could you add an all time record editor? Mine seems to be broken for some people :(

(Only joking).
