Ecowitt GW2001 Rain data correct in Dashboard, incorrect in exported .csv log

Post by traveling36 »

Hi Everyone,

New user here! I only realized yesterday that Ecowitt deletes data after 90 days, so I had to quickly find an alternative to salvage as much of my data as possible. Enter CumulusMX—thank you so much for this fantastic software! You’ve really saved the day.

Although I’ve worked out most of the issues importing my historical data, I’m encountering one problem I can’t seem to solve: there’s a discrepancy between the correct total rain data displayed on the dashboard and the incorrect values in the exported intervaldata.csv.

The total rain data in the dashboard matches what’s shown in the Ecowitt app, but when I sum up the values in the .csv file, it’s more than double the actual amount. To make things even stranger, when I compare the .csv file on a day-to-day basis, it often shows no rain on days when it actually rained.

For reference, I’m using an Ecowitt GW2001 “Wittboy” with a Haptic Rain Sensor, and I’m running macOS Sonoma.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix this?

Are you misunderstanding interval data? The rainfall number is a "so far today" number. You cannot sum them into anything meaningful. You can sum the last value of each day though.

The daily values are in the day file. Use this for daily and period rainfall totals.

Thank you so much for the quick reply!

That makes perfect sense now. I had assumed that “interval data” referred to the ability to select a range of dates for exporting data.

If that’s not the case, could you please let me know how to export all the available data into a single csv file? I’m looking for every 1-minute measurement transmitted over the last 90 days and however much Ecowitt hasn’t deleted from the previous 275 days —no daily averages, just the raw data.

Thanks again for your help!

All the data is in the monthly log files.

There is no 1-minute historic data from Ecowitt, their highest resolution is 5 minutes for 90 days, after that its starts being aggregated further.
