Cache, whole bowser. Undertook renaming the current Cumulus MX folder, extracted the current version to C drive, copied all as suggested. Cumulus up and running. Now that I have a pure, current version install, with the required data from the previous set up, does that mean now I can do the download the next version, extract to my just created new Cumulus MX working folder and the as per normal, overwriting current files and disregarding the warning re danger on starting up??
I meant for you to move your existing install out the way, download the NEW version and extract it, and copy that list of files from old to new.
orion_jb2001 wrote: Thu 12 Dec 2024 11:51 pm Unfortunately, still have that Select Station Type in red error and also because of that error, I can not put in a station model description and save. It will not save anything with that error outstanding. I haven't tried to see if I can change anything else in the station settings like adjusting rainfall amount, I think I will see that it doesn't save anything in station settings with this outstanding error.
If you followed the instructions above then there is no need to set station type - it will be saved in the Cumulus.ini file you copied from your old installation.

Re-reading this topic: you have a fully functioning MX installation, so why are you trying to change station model? I'm not understanding something here.

The initial installed folder is out of the way.

I am not changing the station model, it has not been entered in that particular part of general settings. Yes I do have a functioning MX program fortunately, but if you were going off the general settings, it shouldn't be working. So there is the problem, a glitch between the ini file and the general settings and more specifically, why is the error showing stating that the station type hasn't been set, when it has and because this error, in red, is there, you can not do anything else with your general settings and save it. Over to you developers.

Station type(required)
Select Station Type...

(i) This field should have one of the values in Select Station Type.... Current value is: 1 Station model

##A descriptive name for your station type, this will default to the station type above if left blank. You can change this to whatever you like#

The line above is the information for the station model. If the station model is not set in the select station type, what is the station model defaulting to??

I cannot reproduce this. I set the station type to Davis VP2 and the Station Settings page loads OK.

The other thing is that the validation is saying that Station Mode value "1" is invalid, but that is the correct value. The allowed values are dynamically populated by script though.

I have amended the script for that page slightly due to the details not changing when the JSON station type is selected. Try this updated version of the script. https://github.com/cumulusmx/CumulusMX- ... ettings.js

If you go to that page, up towards the top right is a download icon.

Just click that and save the file into your CumulusMX/interface/js folder.

HI,

Now back to the problem. I thought I would download a brand new version of Cumulus MX, not worried about historical data, I use my Davis setup for that.I have noted the suggested files to bring over from a previous setup and I am starting from the relevant network adrress as displayed by the MX setup window that is produced on activating the MX.exe and the same issue is still there and if you were intially setting up MX4 you would not and can't get passed the initial window in the first time wizard set up. It wants you to set a station type, I know mine is a 1 and this what displayed:

Station type(required)
Select Station Type...
This field should have one of the values in Select Station Type.... Current value is: -1
Please select a station type

You can not enter 1, it remains in red and you can not go onto the next set up till it sees a 1. I am using the download from the wiki page, the latest version, extracted to my naked C drive, without any Cumulus folders at all.

Now that I have seen what happens with a naked Cumulus MX install, without any previous versions, I am wondering what's happening to people trying Cumulus MX for the first time, don't have any of these files to drag over from a previous version and get stuck on the first page, unable to continue with the install.Do they think that was a waste of time and go for another weather program????

Why are you trying to set the station type to "1"? - that is not a valid setting. You must pick the station type from the dropdown selection of station names.

Hmm, a browser caching issue perhaps? I don't know which browser you are running, but try it in an InPrivate/Incognito window - whatever you browser calls it.

Also look directly at the Station Settings, do you get the correct options there?

I am using Chrome. Using an ingognito window is the work around and the station type was selected. Went back to the original problem and that was what was causing the error, because the station type hadn't been entered, even though is other parts of the program, you could see it was a type 1 stn, it wanted the station type selected from the drop down.

So a work around but, someone needs to find out whilst using a normal chrome window, you will not be able to set the station type from the drop down.

Went back to my last version save of Cumulus MX before trying this fault checking, with all the data, internet settings etc and that works now with out the error showing in the script about station type needing to be set. So I can now transfer back to my C drive, my original cumulus MX program with everything working including the internet downloads. :)

You absolutely can set station type from the drop down using a normal chrome window. You just need to clear your cache. If you hit ctrl+shift+r that will usually do the trick. Or via chrome settings.
