Setting station type

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Setting station type

Post by orion_jb2001 »

Hi all,

I am running MX4, latest version and all has been running fine, I think. Just went into the station settings to check that all was good and noted a warning warning Will Robison alert in red that I need to set a station type, "This field should have one of the values in Select Station Type.... Current value is: 1"

When I click on the down drop down button it doesn't not show any options to change this from 1 just the heading select station type. I have down the usual searches in the forum to try and find how I set this station type, obviously some where else apart from general settings, get a million hits but not instructions of how to set your station type. The rest of the general fields are set correctly.

Any suggestions? MX4 appears to be working properly, except for the red warning in station type. :)

From what I can tell, the station type options are different depending on the Manufacturer of your hardware, and tells Cumulus what protocol is used to communicate between Cumulus and your hardware.

Hi Ken22, yes from the myriad of hits from searches, that would seem correct but no sign of how to set it and to what. Thanks for the reply. :)

Well the first question is what is Manufacturer set to to.

Please also supply a diagnostics file from the MSDiags folder so we can look at what it thinks it is using.

which would be correct for a Davis VP2 and serial (or USB to Serial) datalogger.
That all seems good.

Other than the dayfile error on line 1040 it all seems ok, and running. You should fix this datafile error through the Data Logs > Dayfile > Dayfile/Viewer Editor.

I presume you mean that the text turned red in the field for entering the station type. That usually is when a field is not populated to what is expected. You didn't by chance erase the entry and moved the mouse away from the field, which would then trigger that message. But that is difficult as the entry is pre-populated with the choices. Can you do a screen capture of the message? Or perhaps enable Debug and Data logging as yours is disabled.

Code: Select all

2024-12-12 07:32:25.481 Debug logging :disabled
2024-12-12 07:32:25.481 Data logging :disabled
After enabling, stop CMX, restart, let it run for 5 minutes and then disable the debug and data logging. Have a look in the MXDiags file to see if anything else is logged. And if not already set to Warning set the

Code: Select all

Dashboard latest errors logging level
Warning
The default of Error only shows more serious issues, set to Warning to get more verbose logging
to warning.

Enjoy,
Paul

Screen capture as requested. There was nothing entered in that drop down, it was and is like that when you go into general settings.

That is not the usual. I have 4 instances of v4.3.1 b4064 and they are all the same;
Select the Manufacturer - i.e. Davis
Click on the down pointer to select a Station type and 5 items popup for the Davis,
Select the Davis Vantage Pro 2
Continue or Save

Possibly your install is not complete. I'd suggest you redownload and reinstall all the unzipped download, including all the \CumulusMX\interface to make sure you have all the current files.

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi,
It seems to be connected to station type 1 and running ok, and nothing further I can detect in the log file.
The only other though is to try using the A!2 interface and see if that gives that same message.

You likely know that you could also check and set the station type in Cumulus.ini settings file (while CMX is stopped). This is not the recommended way though.

Enjoy,

The screen capture does imply that the one or more of the interface files may be out of date - or a cached old copy is being used by the browser.

Interesting. My procedure for updating versions is to download the file, extract it directly to the Cumulus MX folder in the C drive, accept the download alert to replace what ever existing files and on initial start up on the new version ignore the alert about evil places that might be about with this install.

How would I fix interface files may be out of date - or a cached old copy is being used by the browser.?

For caching, either do a forced refresh of each page (load the page then press CTRL+F5) or clear the whole browser cache.

For updates, an alternative to copying the new release over the existing is to rename the directory that the existing installation resides in, then unzip the new release, then copy over the following from old installation to new:
Cumulus.ini
strings.ini
UniqueId.txt
Contents of data folder
Contents of Reports folder
Any customisations/additions made to files in the web folder

Each method has its pros and cons, but with this method you know that any files no longer needed by the application will definitely be removed.

Freddie,

Cache, whole bowser. Undertook renaming the current Cumulus MX folder, extracted the current version to C drive, copied all as suggested. Cumulus up and running. Now that I have a pure, current version install, with the required data from the previous set up, does that mean now I can do the download the next version, extract to my just created new Cumulus MX working folder and the as per normal, overwriting current files and disregarding the warning re danger on starting up??

Unfortunately, still have that Select Station Type in red error and also because of that error, I can not put in a station model description and save. It will not save anything with that error outstanding. I haven't tried to see if I can change anything else in the station settings like adjusting rainfall amount, I think I will see that it doesn't save anything in station settings with this outstanding error.
