Build 4064

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Build 4064

Post by water01 »

Running on w10/w11 and Synology NAS using .NET 8.0.11 all working fine.

I see that you now have to specify .NET 8 in the Winget Installer as .NET 9 is now the default. Will V4 be updated to use .NET 9 sometime in the future?

Is .Net9 downward compatible?

For all that is needed with CumulusMX I would have guessed v8.x would suffice as it is in Long Term Support.

I'm sure v9 will be backward compatible, but there maybe caveats to some OS's

I have 8.0.1 installed and I don't see any reason to upgrade unless Mark indicates it is required.

According to MS .NET 8.0.11/10 contained security fixes for Microsoft Security Advisory CVE-2024-38229 | .NET Remote Code Execution Vulnerability and also Microsoft Security Advisory CVE-2024-43483 | .NET Denial of Service Vulnerability, so I would think it might be advisable to upgrade. Previous versions also had security patches.

On my Linux system I have the Microsoft repository and so when I update the system I get the latest available and so I am running dotnet 8.0.11 right now with no issues with CMX.

Interesting observation...
First release of CMX v4.3.0 b4063 zip had 82 downloads in 5 days.
Next release b4064 zip has had 256 downloads in just over 1 day.

Is this a sign of hesitation/apprehension on a new product or version update, until it has had a bit of extensive use?

Enjoy,
Paul

Paul does that include all the Beta testers who had the pre-release 4063 as that could explain it?

No, I think that is only downloads from Github after Mark posts the link on the forum's Latest build distribution download.

There is usually a surge in downloads when A release is announced and slows down over time. So the more days, the less average per day after the initial surge.

No idea if it is .NET 9 compatible, but lots of the MS components used for .NET 8 have now been released with a 9 version, so my guess its it may well be.

I'll be sticking with .NET 8 as that is the LTS release.

My excuse is inertia, plus the fact that the warning of a new build is below the fold so I rarely see it. Just downloaded 4064 - I assume I don't have download and install 4063 first.
