Change version from Cumulus V3 to V4

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

v4/CumulusMX is not a directory as such, in the instruction there is a space after v4.

Can you give your (absolute) path to the v3 version and to the v4 version please?

Re: Change version from Cumulus V3 to V4

Hello good morning, I have an explicit disk to use CumulusMX v3, currently this disk is E:/>
On this same disk I have installed the new CumulusMX v4
I have transferred Cumulus.ini and strings.ini v3 to the root of v4
I have copied the v3/data/reports folders to the v4 installationI have renamed the data folder to data v3 within the v4 installation
I don't know how to do it (From the command prompt, change the path to your v4 /CumulusMX folder)
Since I didn't do this step when I run MigrateData3to4 the command prompt appears but it doesn't do anything else and data is not changed to (yyyyMM)log.txt
I confirm again that the old version of CumulusMX v3.28.6 build 3283 is working in E:\ and the new installation hasn't started yet (renamed as V4) as well
Thanks

Dear Hans, I have been a fully satisfied user of cumulusutils for years. What will happen now when switching to the new version?

So I assume your new installation is on E:\v4 on a windows machine.

Then to change directory to the v4 version directory:

Code: Select all

cd E:\v4
And then you run MigrateData3to4

Thanks for the compliment Juan 8-)

If you run the new version of CMX you start using v7 and up of CUtils. To do so, you follow the additional instructions here. It looks a bit awkward but it is not too bad. If running into problems, post in the CUtils forum.

Important thing is you have CMX v4 running well so that is the first and most important step.

Dear Hans, I have reached a point of total confusion with the installation of version 4, I have become stupid, I am working again with the old version, and I have deleted everything from version V4, I beg you, when you can, if it seems good to you, to provide me with the appropriate steps to reinstall the new version, I attach screenshots of where V3 is currently installed
I feel terrible, but right now I am totally confused.

There are no clearer instructions than the ones you have.
I see you have installed v3 in E:\CumulusMX-v3.
So I assume you install v4 in E:\CumulusMX-v4.

You followed the instruction well until you need to change directory. When at that point you do:

Code: Select all

cd E:\CumulusMX-v4
and then run MigrateData3to4.

I have no other instructions than the ones given here.

Did you successfully install dotnet?

It seems that yes, I have .net 9 installed, but it does not migrate my "data" files to the v4 format
If I start the program it works, but without any history.
There is surely something that I am missing, and that I am not doing well, I will wait for more information, but if I cannot get it to work I will have no choice but to continue with the old version, just in case I am inserting a screenshot of "dotnet" in case it is not correct.

You only need Microsoft.NETCore.App 8.0.xx, please remove the 9.0.xx versions.
There is no more info than what is published and it should be enough.

For the rest: I use Linux based systems and don't know the details of the windows installation so maybe somebody else jump in.

The MigrateData3to4.exe application, for some reason, does not convert my data from version 3 to version 4. If someone from this forum can help me (I use Windows 11), I have been trying to upgrade from version 3 to version 4 for two days and it seems that I am following the instructions on the Wiki step by step.
P.S. I have .NET 8 installed
Thanks

The conversion program writes a log file. Attach it to a reply to this topic.
