Meteorological Autumn 2024 ended yesterday. Here are some stats for my station in Cheadle Hulme which I hope you find interesting.

Highest temperature was 25.5°C on 6 September.
Lowest temperature was -4.8°C on 21 November.
The wettest day was 30 September when 1.9" (48mm) fell. The second wettest day in 15 years of recording.
The highest wind gust was 34mph recorded on both 20 October (Storm Ashley) and 24 November (Storm Bert).

The average temperature for Autumn was 10.5°C making it the fourth coldest autumn since I started keeping records in 2009. Only 2010, 2012 and 2019 were colder.

Rainfall was 10.56" (268mm) - 112.8% of that expected. September had 202% of that expected but October's was 74% and November's 78%.

Sunshine was below average for both September and November. October's was close to the average.

Overall, a cooler, slightly wetter and duller autumn than average.

A wet season in Shropshire! Here are my stats:

Highest temperature was 25.4°C on 6 September.
Lowest temperature was -5.9°C on 21 November.
The wettest day was 15 October when 50.6 mm fell, with 42.0 mm falling on the previous day. Not the wettest days I have recorded in the past 16 years (96.6 mm in the Rhondda in October 2018) but certainly the wettest at this site in the past 4 years.
The highest wind gust was 35 knots (40 mph) recorded on 20 October.

The average temperature for Autumn was 10.2°C, only 0.1 above normal.

Rainfall was 419.7 mm - 187% of that expected. All three autumn months were wet - September had 265% of that expected, October's was 191% and November's 123%.

Overall, a very wet autumn (much wetter than 2023 - 258.4 mm), but temperatures were average.

Average temp was 12.5°C here, slightly above average.
26.3°C on the 19th September.

425.8mm of rain / above average.
Wettest day was 5th September with 43.8mm of rain.

High wind gust of 51mph on the 23rd November.

All 3 months had below average sunshine, with November being the dullest on record with just 51.4 hours.

Autumn sunshine was 244.2 hours. Average is 360.6 hours.

2024 is set to be the dullest on record here. It has been awful for sunshine!
