why no wind speed data in the dayfile?

Post by daj »

Out of curiosity, is there any reason why the dayfile.txt is missing data on the Windspeed?

The wind gust and wind run are there but I just realised highest wind speed was not :?:

It's just the way it happened. I decided the daily peak gust was the most interesting aspect of the wind speed, so that went in first, and have never got around to adding the average wind speed.

The omission of the average speed is all the more strange because I do have the necessary data to hand at the time of writing the dayfile entry (it appears in the 'today' section) so I propose to add it, as it's two lines of code.

I could then use it for the 'gale days' calculation in 'this month' etc, where I currently have to trawl through the monthly logs to find the wind speeds. It would have been much easier at the time I added 'gale days' if I had added the average speed to the dayfile; I have no idea why I didn't at the time. To do this and remove the existing gale days code, I would have to guarantee that the item was in the dayfile, so it would need a utility to process the monthly logs and retrospectively add the peak wind speed to the dayfile. Then there's the complication that the wind run hasn't always been present in the dayfile...
