New Setup Ecowitt GW2001

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

New Setup Ecowitt GW2001

Post by K4HNT »

Hi I just did a new install and connected to a Ecowitt gw 2001 / whittboy. Pretty easy setup and connection!! I have one issue that I can't seem to find an answer for. The external temperature is way off, I tried to enter a calibration on the calibration page but it doesn't appear to be a constant. Is there a known issue here that I missed or a setup gotcha and I need to do something different? Internal temperature is reading correctly.

Thanks for any help, First post so not sure what I can provide that will help show someone what I'm seeing but happy to provide whatever is beneficial.

I switched to the Local TCP interface from the local http interface and everything is populating as expected now...yay!!

Now to go research how to clear my logs to remove this bad data from the historical logs :)

Could you post an MXdiags log file from when you were running the HTTP protocol?

Though without debug logging enabled, I probably will not be able to see what was wrong.

What was the outdoor temperature, and what were you seeing in MX?

I am sorry Mark, by the time I got back to see this, I had completed a "rebuild" of my MX install because I developed an issue with my gateway similar to https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=46089.0. In my troubleshooting it appeared if I did not run MX the gateway was stable, leading me to believe some option I played with was causing the gateway some issue it couldn't recover from. I determined this by running the gateway without MX for several hours which had no issues, I started MX and within about 10 minutes the gateway was unresponsive with the slowly flashing red light. Since resetting the install and reconfiguring everything is fine. I did however continue using he TCP local option because of the experience I saw earlier with the http and temp for whatever that may have been.

Is one better than the other (http vs tcp local) or is it just a preference thing?

I love this piece of software so far, I am learning a lot about weather and my weather station. I have had an ambient for several years but it was a hands off unit and I never really got into it like this...having fun :)!!

Terry I run a GW2000 with MX just perfectly currently using the TCPIP API, although I don't have Wittboy but a WS80. I have run this using ethernet and on wi-fi and both work fine, it's currently on ethernet. The only thing I would say is that if on ethernet then make sure you disable the wi-fi on it and turn off the built-in AP on it. Also I use fixed IP addresses on all my gateways (I have 4 ;) ) and the only one I do have issues with is my GW1200. It was me who originally reported that issue you quoted but I've not had it since.
