It looks like WL does the same as the DLL - reads the EEPROM then does the DMPAFT. In this case the EEPROM read worked OK, so all was well.

Have you tried VirtualVP and Cumulus without WL running, or has WL been running all the time?

The problem occurs regardless of whether WeatherLink is running.

But all the VVP and Cumulus logs I have sent you, except those with the last message, have been carried out with WeatherLink OFF - to avoid muddying the waters.

I'll upload a build with a bit more tracing of the dialogue between Cumulus and the DLL tomorrow. Perhaps you could try that, just to see if that gives any more clues, and then I think I'll have to ask Steve Hatchett to have a look at the problem.

What version of VirtualVP are you using?

I'm using VirtualVP 1.2.3 which I think is the most recent version.

I really should upgrade my VP2 Console firmware rev 1.60(AU) dated 01/12/06 to the most recent one which is 1.82. It's just that I'm worried about the Australian customisation. I don't know whether 1.82 downloaded from Davis' US site is designed to work over here, whereas 1.60(AU) obviously is. And other than this problem, it seems to be working ok. What do you think?

Until very recently I was running a very old firmware, and didn't have this problem (but I don't use VVP much), so I think you should probably leave that as a last resort if you're worried about losing your AU version. Although mine reports as 1.82(EU) now and I used the standard download from the Davis US site.

FYI this happened to me too. I purchased a vp2 in November, trialled virtualvp for a few hours and then bought it. The next day turned everything on and got no updates from the console even though cumulus said "downloading." After lots of fiddling and trawling thru forums I saw no other reference to the issue and I never fixed the problem. I gave up on it and now run C1, C2 and WL separately thru the serial interface without Virtualvp with no problems. I did email virtualvp support and Steve replied he would look into it but I have heard nothing since.

Build 907 has the extra tracing. Please try it again and attach the Cumulus diags file and the VVP log.

Interesting. I wonder if it's a coincidence that you're also in NZ...

Yes, I'm even on the Coromandel as well! amazing coincidence!!

I am very suspicious of our time zone - UTC+13. I just feel that might have something to do with it.

I'll try the new Cumulus build, but will be out and unable to do so for 8hrs.

Could well be; but none of the evidence so far points to that.

No problem. I'll be in bed when you get back, though :)

I installed build 907. Cumulus was then turned off at 06:13 and restarted at 07:13. I'm attaching the diagnostic files.

Thanks. This is what I was looking for:

27/01/2010 07:13:10.140 : VP2: DownloadData_V = -32701

The DLL returns 'COM Error' when Cumulus asks for the data. I guess this is because of this (again):

07:13:08:937 Info - VpConsole: Sending Get EEPROM Data binary
07:13:09:265 Info - VpConsole: No response received for Get EEPROM Data binary

I'll see what Steve Hatchett has to say about it.

Any of you guys from Coromandel have a website up yet? Could be handy for checking out Pauanui conditions?

I'm on the west side of the peninsula but you can try www.sr.net.nz. NIWA's got a webcam at Pauanui at http://www.niwa.co.nz/our-services/onli ... anui-south (although it doesn't get updated very often) and there's a weather station at Cook's Beach, a bit to the north of Pauanui at http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~tedm/Cooks ... ather.html.
