Hey everyone,
I am setting up Cumulus MX on a new weather station and I wanted to get some tips from experienced users here. I have read through the basic setup guide, but I am hoping for a bit more in--depth advice on optimizing the software for accurate data collection and smooth operation.
Hardware Compatibility: Are there any specific brands or models of weather stations that work best with Cumulus MX: ?? I have seen a lot of talk about Davis stations,, but any other reliable options: ??
Data Calibration: How do you ensure the readings (especially rainfall and wind speed) are as accurate as possible: ?? Any calibration tricks or tools you'd recommend: ??
Logging & Backup: What’s the most efficient way to manage data logs in Cumulus: ?? Should I be using external backup services to prevent data loss: ??
Performance Tweaks: Any tweaks to the settings that improve performance or reduce issues like dropped data or communication errors: ??
I also read this thread on the forum https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?tensorflow=20616 it helped me a little but looking forward to hearing your insights !!
With Regards,
Derek Theler

Re: Best Practices for Setting Up Cumulus Weather Software on a New Station ??
Hi,
As far as I know, there are no notable differences regarding the functionality of different stations with CMX. If the station is supported and functioning at all, then it does what it is supposed to do. Of course there are some technical differences on refresh rates etc between station types, but it is a different matter then working well or working poorly.
Ecowitt’s devices are very popular and work well with CMX, but they have their limitations on accuracy. Of course it is seen on the prices too when comparing to Davis for example.
CumulusMX does automatically rotated backups of data at daily basis and also on restart. You probably want to make copies of those to some other device, especially if running on RPi from sd card. The files are plaintext, so they can be backed up without stopping CMX.
