Quite a number of new Cumulus users recently so just want to mention to look at https://beaumaris-weather.com/wxcuusermap.php where you can add your station to the map.

Thanks to Tony of Beaumaris Weather

Enjoy,
Paul

A 66% / 34% split between CMX and original Cumulus is less than I imagined. 15.4 years on from startup both Cumulus and my Samsung NC10 continue to provide a highly dependable service. 👍

Hi,

Just added the 2 new users (both CMX).

A 69% / 31% split between CMX and original Cumulus.

The only thing I would add here is that this list is not a complete list of all users, many elect not to add their site for many reasons, so what the actual totals are I would have no idea.

How many of the Cumulus 1 users on your list are actually CMX users - they've just not updated their details, e,g. North Bayswater? Or have you allowed for this?

We have had this discussion before. CMX has more facilities (more being added with each release), covers more weather stations; works on more computers and operating systems and nowadays is a far superior product.

You can't bury your your head in the sand forever, and 16year+ computer running a way out of date operating system is eventually going to fail, and my suggestion as always is, I would be in your case, be trialling CMX on another computer prior to that happening.

To lose that amount of data after so many years would be a tragedy, but as always it is up to you.

Wow! You know nothing about me but assume you know more than me about my setup and how I safeguard my equipment. I can assure you my system is secure and in 15 years has never suffered an attack. The netbook is used only for my weather station and NOTHING ELSE!

Operating systems don’t fail. Hardware fails. The original HDD has been replaced by a SSD. No data was lost. Data is backed up to a NAS drive daily. Is yours? I recently bought a used NC10 so have a backup in readiness should the original fail.

How many of us are interested in anything other than temperature, rainfall, pressure and wind? Some have sunshine recorders but not me. Despite running old software my website gets plenty of visitors. More than yours maybe.

The quality of my data is paramount and is as accurate as it can be. Cumulus 1 is 100% reliable.

I have zero interest in CMX. That requires a completely different concept regarding software and I’m not prepared to learn all that at my age.

And it’s strange that I’m one of the few people who start weather discussions here. How odd that so many who have a strong interest in the weather rarely if ever do.

@water01, looking at your all-time records your maximum temperature looks suspicious. 40.2C on 12 August 2020. The highest I recorded on that day was 32.3C. Yours is a massive 8°C higher. Is your equipment positioned correctly?

And 1% humidity in June 2021? Again, extremely doubtful.

WoW,
I can not believe the recent posts above.
How old are you all ?
One does not event have the decency to have a Forum Profile (no name, no website, no info).
Thank you Paul for starting this thread in good faith, though depending on how future posts are delivered and their content, I feel I will just delete the Users Page I created in good faith altogether.
Why some grown people have to carry on like spoiled children, is beyond me !
Let me all know your thoughts.

I appreciate you picking up a while back to show a listing of Cumulus users and trust people will see it as a useful tool for quick view of other users. I think for all of us it is a hobby and we love to show what we have, and what it is like in our neck of the woods. It should not be a contest.

Your list shows my CU1 site and yes I still run it on an old Windows 8 and upload to a website (and I also still keep WeatherlinkPC 6.0.5 and website up to date as well  ), and my CMX site. It is impossible to say how many CU1 or CMX users there are but I recall many years ago when Weather Underground provided such information that there were many hundreds of CU users on WU (before CMX). The other thing I know is that every day there are new downloads on Marks Github site for CMX. And when a new version is announced there are immediately dozens of downloads. The last version has had 1,446 downloads since August 20th, with previous two versions 1,222 and 1,596 all averaging 16.9 CMX downloads a day since December 24, 2018 when Mark took it on.

Lets all enjoy and praise those who do for us, and provide helpful comments to those that ask.

Enjoy,
Paul

The discussion above is not about your User Page, but about Cu1 vs. CMX. Therefore, I cannot think of any reason why you should delete it.
Keep up the good work, Tony!

kindest Regards,
As the one who doesn't have a forum profile I apologise for not having one. However, my site is not particularly well exposed and it's just for my own benefit. I'm going to blame Freddie for being on Cumulus (started on 1, now on MX) - we used to work together and have kept up contact. My question was genuine and not aiming to to be contentious, so don't delete your page on my account. Perhaps remind people to keep it up to date!
Cheers
Malcolm
