Re: Davis Instruments vantage vue to Synology docker Cumulus MX using 6510 USB Datalogger
Hi Freddie,
Thanks I can indeed see a /dev/ttyUSB0. Furthermore, when I do a lsusb it shows up as:
10c4:ea61:0100 00 1.10 12MBit/s 100mA 1IF (Silicon Labs CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller 1267667430) - so I feel like I'm close.
As for the Station Settings in Cumulus, I have the Davis Vantage Pro2/Vue and under Davis Connection I have serial selected and Serial Port name set to Com0 and Log interval 10 min.
I'm not sure what else is wrong.

The serial port name is "/dev/ttyUSB0" not "Com0"

Hi Mark,
Thanks very much for the help.
I have changed the Serial Port name to /dev/ttyUSB0 as per your suggestion but still no joy unfortunately. I'm not sure where the issue is or even what else to try. I even tried installing Cumulus MX on an old PC to see if I could get it working and wasn't able to either. I suspect it was the datalogger driver I had to manually install and its settings.
It feels close but yet so far...
Thanks very much for the help.

In your Cumulus installation is a MXdiags directory. Please zip up its contents and attach to a reply to this topic. We will then be able to see what's going on under the covers.

OK the log says
The Davis people will have to confirm this but it would appear your User on the NAS does not have the correct permissions to open the serial port.
You have to get to the root directory and do a chmod a+rw /dev/ttyUSB0, probably best done using SSH.
Code: Select all
2024-09-14 08:43:13.277 InitSerial: Connecting to the station
2024-09-14 08:43:13.287 InitSerial: Error opening port - Access to the port '/dev/ttyUSB0' is denied.

Hi David,
Thanks very much - more success but not quite there yet - I followed your instructions - perfect level for me - I'm an 'Intermediate novice' and exact commands are much appreciated!
Now, when I go to 192.168.x.x:8998 there's still a bunch of dashes etc but the txt file (attached) from MXdiags seems to show a connection now with your instructions so that is fantastic. The only issue now seems to be displaying all the data in Cumulus...

Since the log shows that the data is coming through, are you sure that you are connecting your browset to that specific instance? In other words I’m thinking about the possibility of you having one other CMX running from earlier testing with the wrong serial settings.

Re: Davis Instruments vantage vue to Synology docker Cumulus MX using 6510 USB Datalogger
This log shows the connection is correct and that the station is busy downloading data, so it would suggest that you need to leave it until it finishes.
I also noticed this
I think this also could be a problem as I have seen Mark comment to other people you need to keep the console clock synced with your Computer or in your case your NAS.
I also noticed this
Code: Select all
2024-09-14 17:19:18.723 Console clock: Console is 57 seconds adrift but automatic setting is disabled - you should set the clock manually.-

Re: Davis Instruments vantage vue to Synology docker Cumulus MX using 6510 USB Datalogger
Hey SamiS,
Thank you - very astute of you. One of the Docker containers I first installed (but had Force Stopped) had restarted when I rebooted the NAS earlier. This would explain the 'Closed connection' message I was getting on .net8 version I've now installed. I have deleted the docker container now so that should no longer be an issue. Appreciate your help.
So it seems the Charts, Today/Yesterday and Records tabs are now working and starting to populate data which is very exciting!
The Dashboard, Now and Gauges tabs are still all blank / dashes and show no signs of life so not sure what is the cause of that:(
Thank you Water01 - I will let the data keep rolling in. As far as the Console Clock - I'll see if I can get it to sync to the NAS - that might be easiest. Otherwise I will have to set it manually closer to the NAS time.
This forum is great - I am so humbled by the fantastic support you're providing - thank you all.

Re: Davis Instruments vantage vue to Synology docker Cumulus MX using 6510 USB Datalogger
Suggest you tick Program Settings > General Options > Stop Second Instance to stop yourself starting a second instance by accident (we have all done it!!).
Try doing a Ctrl + F5 on the Dashboard page to reload the Dashboard without using the cache.
I will try to remember where but somewhere in DSM is a setting to stop the cache being used on web interfaces, just did it so long ago that I have forgotten where!!

Hi David,
Thanks the Stop second Instance is already ticked somehow.
I have just discovered that the Dashboard actually works on my iPad on Safari and also Chrome on my Mac which is SO satisfying
I'm on Mac so have done a CMD+R to reload the Dashboard on Safari. For some reason the dashboard (and some settings menus eg station settings) still don't work on Safari on my Mac but it may come good with time and a little more investigation but at least I now know it is working
EDIT - it's now working after I deleted the Cache!
THANK YOU to everyone who helped out. Hopefully this thread will help out anyone in the future with the same combination of equipment.
Thank you also for this awesome software!
