It looks like the Vantage Vue is capable of recording wind speeds of up to 180 mph.
I'm curious what is the highest wind speed any of you have recorded?

Re: 180 mph
42mph gust since last May. I'm almost ashamed but the anemometer is well sited 6 feet above the roofline. I'm 30 miles inland which is probably a factor. Still waiting for a big Atlantic depression to cross the country.

Was there any damage to your house\building?steve wrote:Just strong wind. It's what the weather here is good at
Did the wind cause any power outages?
Any other noteworthy damage?

Hardly anything at all. The houses here are all built to cope with that sort of thing, and there are hardly any trees. A recently-erected poly tunnel not far from us did sustain some damage.THX wrote:Was there any damage to your house\building?

Did you venture outside during this wind event? If so, were you able to stand?steve wrote:Hardly anything at all. The houses here are all built to cope with that sort of thing, and there are hardly any trees. A recently-erected poly tunnel not far from us did sustain some damage.
Do you have any video of the event?
Are there any news article from the event?
Did your weather station receive any damage or get blown off kilter due to the high winds?

Pretty normal weather up on the Scottish Islands, hot weather and a calm day more likely to make the news. My favourite headline news on the radio when up in Orkney was that a telephone box had been vandalised.

I didn't go out during this particular event, but I've been out in similar ones. You have to be a bit careful, you do feel as though you might get blown over, but I haven't been so far.THX wrote:Did you venture outside during this wind event? If so, were you able to stand?
It was dark during this one, but there's not really anything to see. There are virtually no trees here, and very little else to indicate visually the strength of the wind. I suppose the sea is the most interesting.Do you have any video of the event?
I don't think so, as Alan says, high winds are pretty normal up here. The ferries get cancelled, but that's about it.Are there any news article from the event?
When we first moved here I didn't secure my anemometer well enough, and the first strong wind blew the mounting pole over. No damage to the anemometer, fortunately, so I made sure it was well secured after that. The Stevenson screen to which my weather station is fixed also developed a 45 degree list, so it now has large rocks all over the base of it.Did your weather station receive any damage or get blown off kilter due to the high winds?
