Error, trying to move CMX V3 to new hardware

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Error, trying to move CMX V3 to new hardware

Post by hahniv »

Cumulus MX V3 3.28.6 (3283)
LinuxMint 21.3
MacMini 2018

I am not a Linux person. My home automation system runs on a MacMini 2018 OS 10.14.6 Mojave. I’m using ancient OS and computer because both are the last Macs to run both 32 and 64 bit programs. I have some 32bit in use that were never updated to 64.

I just swapped out the MacMini, Woot or someone like that had a close out of the 2018 model a year or 2 ago, I snagged one as a backup. Video port was getting funky so I made the hardware switch.

I’m running Cumulus on an old windoze machine that is slow and clunky. I’m using it as a backup to the WeatherDisplay program that is running on the home automation system. Davis Vantage Pro 2 is feeding both programs. Cumulus gives me some gauges on my desktop and webpage so it’s more than a backup.

I’m trying to move the Linux operation to my old MacMini. That has been a monumental task with the Apple T2 chip, but finally got Mint 21.3 running on the Macmini. I’m running Mint 21.1 on the windoze machine. I had to go to 21.3 to get it to work on the Mac.

I had hoped that all I needed to do was move the Cumulus folder to the new setup. No so. First it bitched about runtime but gave a solution, so I was able to get that installed. Next launch produced this error:

Unhandled Exception:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceProcess, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.
File name: 'System.ServiceProcess, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'
[ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceProcess, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies.
File name: 'System.ServiceProcess, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'

It has been so long since I’ve had to do anything Cumulus, it just works. Updates always involved dragging the new folder over and replacing the new backup, data folders and config file with the old ones.

Like with runtime, is there some terminal command that will load the missing files? Or is there a file in the the program folder that will install all the support files? It was a few years ago that I did the initial setup, I’m not sure exactly what I did.

As I said, I’m not proficient in Linux. Trying to get it to work on the MacMini has brushed a few cobwebs off but once I get it up and running they will re-form because I don’t usually have to mess with it too much. I want to get V3 going before I even think about V4. Reading through all that kind of makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. :-)

Any suggestions on how to get this running on the MacMini will be greatly appreciated. It has much more ram and a lot faster processor than the clunker it’s running on now.

I assume you have installed the latest version of Mono available for this computer?

THANK YOU! That appears to be the problem. I looked through my Linux archive folder and found the mono routine, ran it and it now appears to be working. I say appears because the CMX is now running, looking for the station on the serial port. I'm working on the MacMini away from the VP2 station that is plugged into the existing Linux box which is still doing it's job until I get the MacMini working. No error coming up, just looking for station so I think I'm good to go when I plug the VP2 in. Hopefully I can do that later today.

Thanks again
