When the Rain Fell

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

When the Rain Fell

Post by Herbaldew »

This is an old problem that didn't just start with v4. It doesn't happen often, but just happened last night/today so I thought I would post a query about it.

My logging interval is 15 minutes on my WifiLogger, CMx and WL PC version. Along with earlier rain, .01" fell between 2345 and 0000. Another .01" fell at 0359.

According to CMx running on a RPi, the first .01" is showing as falling yesterday as it should and the second .01" is showing as falling this morning as it should. I shutdown CMx on said RPi and updated both CMx and Weatherlink on my PC. Weatherlink shows the first .01" as falling yesterday and the second .01" as falling today as it should and today's rain shows as .01" as it should. However, CMx shows both as falling today for a today's rain total of .02".

I don't know if this happens on any day that rain falls during the last log period or just when it is the last day of the month as I have only noticed it on the last day of a month.

Is there a setting that would cause this that I have missed forever or is this just the way it is?

Just to clarify...this does not happen when CMx is connected to the WFL, only when downloading historical data.

Thanks

Now I do know - it happens on any day. .02 inches of rain fell between 2345 - 0000 yesterday (the last archive interval of the day). That .02" is being counted by Cmx in today's rainfall total and not yesterday's.

It was counted correctly while Cmx was running on my RPi. Then I restored the data from Thursday so Cmx would download the data from the logger and that is when it counts the .02" as today's rain instead of yesterday's.

Weatherlink after downloading from logger = correct. Cmx while running = correct. Cmx after downloading from logger = last archive interval of yesterday being counted as today's event. I don't know if this is rain only.

Yes, this is an issue, there is even a note in the source code that it needs to be fixed!

I'll take a look at fixing this.

Did you make any changes regarding this?

The last couple of times I have had this situaion arise, the results have been different than posted above.

eg I had .01 inch of rain Jan 31 between 2345 - 0000. Rather than just being listed as falling on Feb 1 instead ofJan 31 it is listed as falling on both days throwing the monthly and yearly totals off as well.

Again, all is fine in real time, this only happens when downloading historical data.

I agree, I just looked at the code, and the 00:00 (or 09:00) record is being counted on both days now! So, I managed half a fix! :bash:

Now fixed (again) for the next release. Sorry about that.
