Instromet Data Logging (remote location)

Hi all,
I am desperately seeking some help!
I recently purchased an instromet weather station for monitoring conditions in a remote location.
Cumulus was used to configure the station and the dashboard showed the sensors were all working correctly.
I then disconnected cumulus under the impression that the data logger within the control box would continue to store weather information during the deployment period (up to 3 weeks). When reconnecting to the device with cumulus at a later date there was no weather data to be found.
Does the device need to be connected to cumulus 24/7 to produce this information?

Hi,

Presumably you are using CumulusMX. I am not familiar with the Instromet but from the CumulusMX settings it does appear to have a logger so that CumulusMX can catch up the data after a stop and restart at a later time/date. What do you have in Station settings > Advanced Options > Records Began Date?
Also, you can check the MXdiags log file covering the restart time and see if anything is logged there.
Enjoy,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Sorry yes I am using Cumulus MX.
The records began date was the 27th May 2024 and the MX Diag file show the program was looking for data as far back as then but no entries were found.
I have the station set to log data every 10 mins and each time I have deployed the station for testing no data was recorded.
Thanks again
Phil

Have you tested via another route if the Instromet data logged contains the data? It could be that it isn't there?

The instromet logger responds to text commands sent over the interface, you can use a terminal emulator on your computer to do this (indeed bizzarly it is optimised for terminal output, down to echoing the input data and sending prompt strings!).
The commands are available in a document on the Instromet web site. These loggers do seem to have their fair share of "glitches".

Hello, Sorry I am a bit late on this one just spotted the post!
I have been running an Instromet system for several years and do use CumlusMX display results.
The basic Instromet logger has a small back up battery to hold 'settings' and also to support an onboard memory chip which will indeed hold stored recorded data for several weeks depending on sensors and sample rates.
The 'normal' sample time for the Instromet was 15 minutes.
It is sensitive to power supply transients, mine run on UPS, and will freeze data logging if the logger sees a supply spike.
