Daily Rain Graph Average Lines are Zero

Post by maxfieldg »

Hello Hans

I'm running Cumulus MX 4.0.1 and CUtils 7.0.2

The Daily Rain Graph under Climate Data displays correctly, except for the Station Yearly Average and Normal Yearly Rainfall which both show zero. I have filled out the NOAA section in Cumulus Settings with the monthly average rainfalls and I have the UseNormalRainReference parameter set to "both". I can't work out why these lines are zero.

https://maxfieldg.com/weather/climate.h ... =DailyRain

In contrast, the Daily Temp Graph works perfectly, showing the Station Average and Standard Deviation with the UseNormalTempReference parameter set to "both".

Can you please determine why this is so?
Thanks George

Hi George,

You confused me slightly with your remark on the temperature graph because the monthly rain graph works as well. It is only the daily graph which does not display the yearly total value. Actually it does display a Station Total of 0 but it does not display a Normal Total at all. And that is indeed strange.

What I need is the log (the last website run which generates the chart) to verify that the determination of the Station and Normal total values actually takes place. It should because - as you correctly note - the UseNormalRainReference parameter is set to both.

Forget the above: in a brainwave I checked your Dayfile Reader (Thanks for including that in your site) and I noted that you are missing five days in your first full year (2023; 2024 is not used yet because it is not finished, 2022 is not used because that is where you started). I demand 364 days in a year to make the year average be valid. That explains why the Station Year Average is 0. I may reduce that number of days to 350 or so to relax it a bit. Any suggestion?

I can't explain yet why the normal value line is not shown, I need the logfile first so please send that (for a website run where the graphs are created).

Unfortunately I'll be off for a week so given the diff between AU and EU that may not be enough time to solve the riddle.
I'll be back around 27 June.

Thanks Hans

My website used to reside on an old laptop that had a habit of hanging periodically, hence the gaps in the dayfile. I've since replaced it with a newer machine that's more reliable.

Log file attached.

Regards
George

OK. I confirmed that the average total rain per year on the basis of what you filled in in the NOAA numbers in the CMX inifile is 818.2 mm (the Normal value). The reason why you don't see that in the chart is because the max total rain in the chart so far is 533 mm and because the reference lines are implemented as Plotlines, those lines will only appear if the total rain in any years will be around the Normal value. So you'll have to wait here.

In the next version I will set the nr of days for an accepted year to 350 which would mean your 2023 should have the reference line for the Station Average created. That version will appear when I am back and will be v7.1.0
