CMX just stopped

From Cumulus MX version 3 build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since, and has recently released Cumulus MX version 4. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

CMX just stopped

Post by HansR »

Without any message CMX was out this morning (see logfiles, no debugging was switched on).

The only exception I can think of was the fact that the Linux machine had been running for 6 weeks and three days straight which had been a first.
No message even no indication of what had happened so this is just a report (I am not going to run DEBUG for 6 weeks: I just accept a reboot)

In addition the journald just told me - after the dotnet start - for CUtils, to completion - at 03h21 i get:

Code: Select all

mei 30 03:21:17 rpiCMX3 dotnet[10813]: Fatal error. System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
From the logfiles I can see :
  • that CMX stops logging after "2024-05-30 03:20:01.366 Reading sensor ids"
  • that CUtils starts without a problem at 2024-05-30 03:21:02.475 and runs until 2024-05-30 03:21:14.496
There are no other indications of error in the journal afaics so it seems dotnet is the culprit somewhere in CMX.

NOTE: I run CMX for no longer than a day because of backup procedure after which I restart. This had been going OK for 6 weeks 3 days.

It does look like a crash in dotnet rather than Cumulus :(

Agree... Dotnet seems the culprit.
But since I seem to be the first and only it does not seem to be a big deal.

There does seem to be a dotnet 8.0.106 released on 28th may. Not sure if it's available for Linux packages as yet

Since I like being on the "bleeding edge" as Hans knows I installed .NET 8.0.6 and CumulusMX 4 is up and running on it on Windows 10.

Tried to find out what had changed and it seems to be memory components mainly. Perhaps after 6 weeks you ran out of memory or hit a memory limit?

@hvd51: ok. Question is: did CMX ever stop abruptly in this almost 7 week period? I see it has been running for 16 hrs now, so did it crash 16 hrs ago? (I assume not :) )
