Crashing every couple of days
I'm running Cumulus MX on a Libre Computer with a Raspberry PI OS.
Every couple of days it stops and I have to power cycle to start up again.
In crontab I scheduled a reboot everyday at midnight.
That still doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Any advice?

Could you zip up a log file from your MXdiags folder that covers a crash, and attach it to a reply to this topic please.

As above diags please. But note, midnight is the worst possible time to reboot, Cumulus will be in the middle of its overnight processing.

Re: Crashing every couple of days
I will upload the MXdiag files when and if it crashes again. I also changed the nightly reboot for 2a.m instead of midnight ( computer is set for UTC time ).
Thanks for the advice.

You would be best avoiding whole hours as well as that is when the log gets written, database updated, ini files updated etc, if your logging interval is say 5 minutes, then make it reboot at 2 or 3 minutes past the hour.

Re: Crashing every couple of days
OK! I finally got some data to share. While I was out of state I noticed that it appeared my Cumulus MX station stopped putting out information. I had my wife power cycle the computer running CMX and it appeared to come back up. Looking at my APRS raw data, it appears to have stopped somewhere between 18:37 CDT and 19:40 CDT on May 31 after running continuously since May 27th and 16:26 CDT. I have CMX scheduled to restart every night at 01:02 every night. Looking through the MXDiag files I see Data input appears to have stopped around the time the error was noticed. I believe my weather station ( Ambient WS-2902D ) was working because it was updated on ambientweather.net and PWS and Weather Underground. PWS and Weather Underground both push out from ambientweather.net. Since it appears that CMX is not really crashing, but data is being stopped. Any ideas what may be the cause? Thanks in advance!

Don't suppose you have a neighbour broadcasting on the same Mhz band or is the receiving station near something that could cause interference i.e. DEC phone?

I don't know if any neighboring weather stations nearby. Maybe our cordless phones. I'll have to check what frequency they're on.

Re: Crashing every couple of days
After realizing that my crashing issue seems to occur when data stops, I decided to add a reboot script to run when data stops in the alarm settings.
I tested it's function by stopping the data but the script seems to need permissions.
2024-06-05 19:53:00.374 Alarm (Data Stopped): Error executing external program 'reboot.sh': An error occurred trying to start process '/opt/CumulusMX/reboot.sh' with working directory '/opt/CumulusMX'. Permission denied
Any idea how to fix the permissions?
I've attached a text file of the script along with the MXDiags

In reboot.sh the first command also requires a sudo (if you execute it as another user):KF0KFL-13 wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2024 1:14 am After realizing that my crashing issue seems to occur when data stops, I decided to add a reboot script to run when data stops in the alarm settings.

Re: Crashing every couple of days
I figured it out.
Had enter:
chmod +x reboot.sh
To change the permissions to have CMX execute it.
Working now

Re: Crashing every couple of days
Make sure you do not do the reboot at times that MX is processing and saving lots of data, i.e. on the hour and the rollover time, as this can cause problems.
