Comms fault

Hello forum
The last couple of days I’ve noticed that my computer has lost comms with the station, restarting Cumulus doesn’t work and it just hangs with the ‘downloading data’ screen, I have to reboot the PC and start Cumulus.
Not yet found the comms prob, but why does Cumulus not get updated from the station when re-started, the station seems to be working OK ‘off line’ but no up-date when comms re-established

Thanks :)

Hi Lester

What operating system are you using?
What other USB devices are plugged in to your PC?
Does Cumulus lose the connection when you are using the PC or when you are away from it?

Morning Dave

1. Win XP Pro
2. Printer, webcam, scanner, ext hard drive, remote keyboard tx/rx,
3. Hard to say, but think when away from it.
Running Avast antivirus, Win updates set to manual, PC always on except screen, can’t think of anything that has changed from when it was running OK?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'not get updated'. Do you mean the 'flat-line' in the graphs? As I keep saying, most recently only yesterday, Cumulus can't cope with the station being unplugged (either physically or in the USB sense) and keeps logging the last value that it received. This is why it doesn't download the history data when you restart it, it thinks it already has the data.

You could try the 'restart if unplugged' option. This would (should) at least stop it logging the same data until you fixed the problem.

Steve,

Is there a way for Cumulus to detect these sort of issue? From a quick glance at the data files there is always some element that always changes and no two lines are identical in succession, so maybe if the software could compare the last two or three entries and if they are exactly the same launch a pop up window or some other alert and stop recording, or better still, close down and restart itself thus attempting to re-detect the base station.

Yes, that's how the 'restart if unplugged' option works.

Thanks Steve

Now I understand why I have 'flat lines' will try 'restart if unplugged' option, still not found the comms fault but seems to be running ok at present.
