Replacing rain collector issue

Post by aznetcowboy »

I just received my Update Kit from Davis Instruments. It didn't take long to run into an issue. How do you get the old tipping spoon off? I have removed 2 little screws from the old unit, but I can't see how to remove the old unit. It's almost like it is glued in place. I don't want to force it loose so I can remove it as I sure don't want to break anything. Any suggestions on how to get the old tipping assembly off and the new one installed?

Though if the plastic is cold and old, it takes a bit more force than the video implies!

a Hairdryer soon warms the plastic up.

I got it off, with just on big problem. My W.W. spent years on my roof it Tucson, exposed to the hot sun and temperatures in the 100's for months on end. Well, it seems the clips holding the tipping spoon assembly has gotten brittle, and they broke while doing as shown in the video that I found on You Tube. All I can hope for now is that the new assembly will stay snug in the stubs of the clips that are still in place (fingers crossed!). Time will only tell.
