Minimise to tray

Post by Alanji »

Downloaded Cumulus OK (second time - first time was to program folder - RTFM)
Setting display option to "minimise to tray" does indeed minimise to tray but clicking on the icon merely causes Cumulus to flash briefly and return to the tray as an icon. I have searched the forum but cannot see that anyone else has had this problem - I am running Windows 7, perhaps it is only a problem when running on 7?

Great software by the way.

Yes, they've changed the way the system tray works in Windows 7 which seems to affect the minimise-to-tray component that I use. I should really write some code to cater for W7 (and perhaps take advantage of some other W7 features at the same time).

A work around is to right-click and select 'Restore Cumulus'.

Oh yes - that's how it works anyway, it's nothing to do with Windows 7!

Neither works, I'm afraid. Right click brings up the Cumulus icon and an option to "unpin from taskbar". Double click flashes the window as I previously described.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were trying to use the system tray icon (which does seem to work as intended) but you've pinned it to the task bar and are trying to use the task bar icon.

I don't really understand why you want the "minimise to tray" setting when you've pinned it to the task bar? The idea of "minimise to tray" is that you no longer get an icon in the task bar, but you're forcing it to have one anyway.

in Windows 7 you can drag the minimised icon from the pop up system tray to sit just beside the pop up system tray arrow in the task bar, then double clicking that will open the Cumulus window.

double clicking the main task bar icon is trying to launch cumulus again when it is already open but minimised hence why it doesn't.

therefore for quick access to cumulus when its already running either switch off minimize to tray or do as suggested above. I hope that helps!

I have had some time to experiment (still new to Windows 7) and the answer is not to pin it to the task bar. I did so in the first place so I could open it easily.
I have also selected "show icon and notification" but the cumulus icon does not appear (even in the 'hidden' icons) until it is running - not a problem, just strange.

Only running applications appear in the notification area.
