I applied for one from Highcharts
Was pretty quick to do
Reached out to Highcharts support and advised what it was for and gave links to the web pages that use Highcharts.
Was directed to here
https://shop.highcharts.com/contact/personal
Filled it out and a day later got an email with license certificate PDF file
Didn't appear as though any further actions needed
It wouldn't surprise me if this is a marketing ploy on Highcharts part to test market saturation, good way to get contact details of me.
Barry
Still doesn't change my view, I will not use it. I don't need anyone else having my contact details and who is to say they wont chnage their minds and charge for it.

Absolutely agree on

After I had done it, thought maybe I shouldn't have. My thinking was the same as yours in terms of what about next year.

I would suggest that Mark (and other sub-developers - eg Hans R for CUtils) make it absolutely clear to all their users that they now need the non-commercial licence, and to renew it annually. Provide the link to guide them how to do it.
That should absolve Mark
et al of any responsibility, and it's then down to individual users whether they comply or take whatever risk there is. Users' judgements on this might of course depend whether they are using Highcharts on outwardly-available site.
This could be in the interim, or permanently. I do think it important that the developers can visibly demonstrate that they have taken steps to encourage compliance.
I agree and I adjusted the License note in CUtils 7.1.0 (released 27/6/24)
I also agree with @nossis, broadstairs and others that license may change in future and I assume a more permanent solution can be found (be it another technique or a true CMX and subprojects license agreement with Highcharts)

So as I have three CMX websites - do I need a licence for each or a single licence to cover them all and if I apply on the form here
https://shop.highcharts.com/contact/personal
Do I need to mention them all????

Don't know. I would apply for one license and then ask them what they want.
Feed back here please

I may apply but I am slightly worried that if I apply, list my three websites and they refuse a personal licence, they will have my sites on record and can check if I have paid or not!!

Then apply for one and ask neutrally what to do with possibly additional websites... could those be created under the same license as they are in the same project and same intentions. They do not seem to rigorously check things at the moment and your URLs are significantly different so they won't find out easily (unless they follow us here

)

I took a look at that form and I am even more convinced I have taken the right decision not to use Highcharts at all.

But how do I use CMX without Highcharts without resorting to third party templates???

It's entirely up to you if you want to use Highcharts. I don't like the way they do business.
I used to have a whole bunch of graphs on my website but they were rarely used by visitors. They were driven by php from Weather Display but since moving to CMX I have not yet bothered. Something I will get round to but the main site is a modified Saratoga one with no graphs on the pages.

@broadstairs: that is a choice many users using the interface and a website will not adhere to. CMX has charts, the website has charts. And a picture says a thousand words. No doubt after the holidays this discussion will reopen and I think your choice is made by a minority.

Hans I completely accept that, however I do feel that looking for a workable alternative which is free and ideally open source would be the best thing to do since we do not know how long the Highcharts folks will adhere to this current licensing arrangement. I believe this would be in the best interests of CMX and its ethos.
I would not be surprised if this arrangement will only allow for a single domain as they need to know the domain in use, if they were not bothered about multiple domains I'm guessing they would not ask for domain in use. I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling I may not be.

I think we should stop guessing and either move to another charting ecology or have a representative start talking to highcharts about the position of CumulusMX and its satellite software

I'm going to continue to use Highcharts on my website, regardless of the license fiasco.
As long as there are CDN's out there that host the files, I'll keep using them!
