What hardware is compatable to Cumulus

Post by aznetcowboy »

I have been using the Vantage Pro2 weather station since 2013 and up to about a year ago it has been very reliable. Now about the only thing I can rely on is the temperature (I think). At this stage of my life I just don't feel comfortable spending $500 to $1000 replacing my station with the same equipment if I can avoid it. What other weather station system can I replace this Vantage Pro2 with and still be compatible with cumulus? :roll:

Best advice at the moment - also for price - is to look for an Ecowitt sensor array with or without a display. Look around and study how you can combine sensors and then make your choice. It is cheaper and m ore flexible than Davis.

What about the following?

* Davis Instruments 6357 Vantage.
* Davis Instruments Vantage Vue wireless.
* Ambient Weather WS-5000.
* Ambient Weather WS-2902 Wi-Fi Smart.

I do prefer to stay with name brand equipment. ;)

Isn't Ambient and Ecowitt the same thing?

It's made by Ecowitt and rebadged as Ambient (who have some rights to resale in the USA), but it is also locked down and restricted in some respects (fewer sensor types available etc) compared with the Ecowitt equivalents.

Yes, those are compatible with CumulusMX.
For the first item 6357 which is a Vantage Vue ISS only, you would also need an old style #6351 console or the new console #6313, or a Weatherlink Live device #6100 and that then is the Vantage Vue wireless (your second item listed) as a complete station and receiver that can upload to Weatherlink.com and also work with CumulusMX at the same time.

Enjoy,
Paul

If I decide to go with a Vantage Pro2™ Complete Tune Up Kit, has anyone tried using this tune up kit before? As things work here, I would also need to replace the Passive Radiation Shield. I would like to know how difficult it is to install this tune up kit? :o

it shouldn't be too hard to do. I tend to clean my vPro2 Plus twice a year. I strip the shield right down and clean each section anyway.

there is a small guide here on what to do:
