Thanks for this. I I need reminding of the procedure for editing via the built in editor. I did it manually and today I notice yet another 20mm of rain when it should be 0.0mm. If this is the only source where the feed of data comes from, surely its feasible to correct the data? NOAA still incorrect. It would be good to start March without these errors constantly repeating as it make a nonsense of the extremes section.

You can edit the dayfile in: Data logs > Dayfile

If you have 20 mm registered today when it should be zero, correct it via: Edit > Today's rain

Then leave everything until tomorrow which gives CMX a chance to sort out its counters to start tomorrow with the correct counters to avoid the same thing happening again.

Your " in built editor" may not feature on my old version of CumulusMX version 3.8.1 build 3091. As I've mentioned to Paul My I have always shied away from updating when everything works. Updating for a novice like me may cause more issues.
In the short term I've manually edited the 29th February to 0.0mm , so I'm hoping this sorts my current issues. Please refer me to correct process of downloading most recent CumulusMX, avoiding issues.

but you have overcome the Davis 25-year limit

p.s. as long as you have a good/full backup of your current running \CumulusMX install somewhere i.e. ...\CumulusMX-full_backups\b3091\ then you are good to go and experiment

Original 3091 cmx install-? must have! mind you my most recent data is obviously corrupt as a result of Davis Weatherlink falling over. Just converted comma separated data since August 2020 to excel and all my rainfall within Cumulusmx for February 2024 is spurious. Thankfully Weatherlink is fine.

Having looked through many of the log files, your station is behaving very strangely - but consistently strangely

The archive records have an incrementing rainfall counter, each day seems to have some rain. But then when Cumulus reads the current data the rainfall counter jumps back to the value it had before the archive data was read. This happens every time Cumulus performs a catch-up from the logger.

I'd suggest you reset the logger in your VP2.

A simple thing to try at first is just changing the logging interval in the VP2 to another value, then change it back again to the original value. This will force the console to wipe its contents and reinitialise it.

If that does not fix the problem, then it would be a full power down, remove the logger. Leave it a minute, then reassemble.

PS: You have LOOP2 enabled in the Cumulus config, but your station firmware does not support this command. It would be better to disable the option in the station settings.

I have listed all my errors that I'm finding really difficult to change. This has come about with a Weatherlink 25yr hitch in my records that has corrupted many of the extremes and NOAA entries. I have now updated my CumulusMX to 3282 version.

1. NOAA 29th daily rainfall 20.2mm should be 1.6mm
2. Extremes Highest number of wet days for February /March = 27 obviously wrong
3. Extremes 21.0mm/hr March24 Extreme hourly wrong.
4. All time record for February 24 76.5mm wrong.
5. Highest daily rain 28.2mm 2 Mar2024 wrong
6. Highest daily rain 21.0mm 1 March 2024 wrong

I have tried the in built editor but this only throws up more errors.
Where do I go from here?
I did manage to edit the highest monthly total rain from 377mm last month but this has only been replaced by the highest rainfall of 76.5mm " all time record which is not the case!

What errors are you getting with the editor?

The only way of fixing all this is to get the rainfall totals correct for each day in the day file.

So I need to edit the day file in the editor?
Not been doing this I'm afraid. It's not easy in notepad.
Paul My has helped me install v 3082 and its so much better. I have got rusty with editing and haven't used the inbuilt editor. Are the files on my hosts server?

Using Notepad would not be easy. As you are now on the latest version, please try the built-in editor - Data logs > Dayfile

Depending on how many days you need to update it will still be a bit of chore, but the built-in editor means that the risk of messing up the file is much reduced.
