Long timeout GW1100
I had issues with the Ecowitt GW1100 last night from 22:00 to 02:00.
It starts with timeout, the unable to reconnect and when reconnected it can't sync the clock and can't read data (Note: this goes in various forms of timeouts and synchronisation, see logfile).
It seems either CMX or the GW1100 is problematic. However, the Ecowitt.net keeps getting its data so there does not seem to be an issue with the GW1100 from that point of view.
At 02:00 CMX is able to reconnect and fetch data again and the whole thing continues as if nothing happened.
(see log attached)

Re: Long timeout GW1100
you should update your firmware to 2.3.0 - in 2.2.9 there was still a memory leak which could make the GW1100 freeze and/or restart.
This can be seen through the newly introduced variable "leak" which describes the heap memory of the device (can be seen in the custom server string, e.g. via https://ear.phantasoft.de). That leak was discovered by users once "leak" became available in 2.2.9 and then removed by Ecowitt with 2.3.0
It was originally discovered with a GW2000 on 3.0.9 and also removed with 3.1.0

Re: Long timeout GW1100
Check Firmware button does not make the update to 2.3.0 available so I wait.
I have automatic update on because watching the GW1100 is not my daily occupation. So far that has gone well but since 2.2.8 apparently there are issues

Re: Long timeout GW1100
try the WS View Plus app (latest version 2.0.46) - and, if already open, remove it from the smartphone RAM and restart it.
If it doesn't upgrade, try setting the WLAN interface (temporarily) to dynamic (if set to static) and reboot.

Re: Long timeout GW1100
@Gyvate: does not work but one of my GW1100 (have two) does have v2.3.0 so I assume the other will be OK soon.

Re: Long timeout GW1100
@Gyvate: no way this device is updating and it keeps saying 2.2.9 is the latest version (while the other already has 2.3.0).
Yes, I have version 2.0.46 but there is no way I can get it to understand to get 2.3.0, not from the phone, not from the laptop through the browser. The device looks normal and behaves normal, reboots normal but does not operate well for a few hrs per day.
Any other suggestions or should I simply replace it with a spare?

Re: Long timeout GW1100
I'd suggest then a factory reset (press middle part of the button for 10 seconds until the red LED flashies fast) - before note down your calibration settings, rain totals etc. as they'll get lost. Pair it again and see what it gives.HansR wrote: ↑Fri 26 Jan 2024 5:21 am @Gyvate: no way this device is updating and it keeps saying 2.2.9 is the latest version (while the other already has 2.3.0.

Re: Long timeout GW1100
Did it, it still thinks 2.2.9 is the highest version.
Besides that: setting the rain totals is not a good idea because CMX thinks it is a new device and adds the numbers to what it altready has, effectively doubling the rain total. No idea how to correct this. It seems impossible to remove those figures from CMX, it always gets them back from somewhere (I stopped CMX, removed the erroneous times from the logfiles, the ini files and still it is coming back.
I will be moving to a new GW1100...

Re: Long timeout GW1100
I installed a new Gw1100 (did not set rain totals!) and it seems to work fine BUT: it refuses to update to 2.3.0 from 2.2.8 (which this one has)
So my guess is currently that there is something wrong with the update server.
I'm stopping the efforts now until further news.

Re: Long timeout GW1100
After communicating with Ecowitt they confirmed
I hope the problems are over (soon).
After activating automatic, push the button and again to activate the found 2.3.1 update, all three my GW1100's did actually update. Version 2.2.8 to 2.3.1 in 4 days is substantial and apparently they have an issue needing all GW1100 (or the whole family?) to update which apparently overcharged their resources. Can you tick the “automatic firmware update” option? It might be related to internet resources.
I hope the problems are over (soon).
