Ability to clear Latest Error page of errors

Post by broadstairs »

Mark is it possible for you to add the ability to clear this page. My reason is that my GW2000 had an issue at 05:55 today and was not reset until 10:00. The Latest Error page now has a large number of errors in it which are no longer relevant. I know restarting CMX clears it but it would be good if folks could clear their own in such cases.

I did think about adding it from the start, but I also thought people would be tempted to use it!
By which I mean they clear "old" events that may be relevant background when "new" errors occur.

I had thought of the same request ... and get your reasoning, but wouldn't the prior error(s) appear in the diags even without error checking turned on? Maybe just have a log file of the "latest errors"?

I see no point in an extra log file, this option is there to give a heads up that errors happened and then you look at the full log. My point was to allow removal of old errors already investigated and fixed.

But that would require some means of knowing which ones had been investigated and fixed which may happen multiple times during the life of an MXDiags file, which a log file might help with.

Either way I am sure Mark envisaged it as a simple feature that trawled through the latest MXdiags file and presented the last 20. The above makes a great deal more complex code.

I think they objective of this feature is to allow folks to see if there are any errors and then investigate them or ignore them if it is obvious what happened. Assuming CMX is not restarted often then this list can build quite quickly and become cumbersome if for example you have issues like I did which are completely explained and understood (my GW2000 hung up for 5 hours before I noticed!) and I had no need to restart CMX to recover.

I think all that is needed is a simple button to remove all current entries and for CMX to remember the time this is done so that all errors before this time are ignored. This has no effect on the MXDiags log files which still contain all the information. I guess the time stamp could be added to the page so that the viewer knows when it was cleared/started.

But my problem with that argument is that the page only shows the last 20 errors, so how does it "become cumbersome"?

Yes but it will show in my case the last 20 errors for days when they are no longer valid. I guess I just don't like seeing useless data.

Yes perhaps I do have OCD - at least my wife thinks so  ;)

OK so how about this suggestion....

It resets at midnight each day and only shows the last 20 errors for that day, on the basis that if it's an ongoing problem the error will show up again the next day.

I'd like a clean log just like you, so maybe we try adding a clear button and see how it goes.

Just a note on how this works, it does not search the mxdiags file, the errors are recorded in limited list as they occur. So once cleared, they are gone, and the recent error log cannot then be retrospectively repopulated.

If only I had 20 errors in the same day :!:

Enjoy,

After a month my live station still said No errors recorded so far!

But I have disabled recording warnings so all the WoW upload errors don't clog it up!

I have a ton of erroneous errors from a printer utility lol

Code: Select all

WLL broadcast: Received spurious message from printer utility(?) at IP address x.x.x.x starting with "STR_BCAST"
I dont think this can be turned off however.

It is a Warning message, so you can turn it off, but I'll change it to a debug message as MX now copes it.
