RAIN ALERT PROBLEM AFTER B3263 UPDATE

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Hi Mark,
I had same issue,
We had 0.2mm rain at 00:32 on the day I updated and updated at around 11:45 , immediately upon restart after upgrade, rain alert occurred.
Also found that today.ini (Rain / LastTip was changed to 11:45 also.
Tried shutting down and amending today.ini but each restart just kept changing to startup time for LastTip.
Waited till next day as no rain since and amended the yesterday.ini which fixed.
Unsure why this has occurred, Davis Vantage Pro 2 with tipping bucket (0.2mm) and wireless to console usb connected to Win10 PC.
Oh and Is Raining trigger : Primary rain sensor (which it has always been).
kindest Regards,
Tony

Thanks Tony, odd one this, I've diffed the code and cannot see any changes to the rain alert or last rained time for some time.

To be clear, it does not affect the rainfall total, just the last rained date? And you get an immediate alert if you start MX with rainfall already recorded today, but no alert if no rain before the restart?

I'll try and simulate it and run through the debugger next...

Hi Mark,
Yes correct : it does not affect the rainfall total.
Yes correct : just the last rained date,And you get an immediate alert if you start MX with rainfall already recorded today
Unable to test/validate : no alert if no rain before the restart. (As I have had rain every day since update (before I get up)).

Kindest Regards,
Tony

Could you post me a diags file covering a start where you have seen this please? A long shot that it gives me a clue. My dev system is now starting with rain today and no alarm or reset of the last tip date - typical!

There is only one line that sets the last tip date, it is behind a test that allows for rounding errors, but perhaps the error margin given isn't sufficient in all cases.

Looking at the rain code has me in a mild panic for stations that do not have a midnight rollover, but as it has always been the same, and I guess it works - I need to get my head around how it works for 9am stations!

I cannot reproduce this issue, so I'm going to need some diags files with debug switched on please.

Hi Mark,
The problem is that I had the issue only after the first start after updating with no debug logging active...Now I have activated debug logging

That's a great help - and I see the problem, it is a rounding issue from inches to mm. Now to try and fix it!

In your case it is because the live rainfall data is being sent in inches to three decimal places, but the historic data is being sent in mm to one decimal.
