Cumulus Support

Today I have had a problem when I need to close cumulus....I have enabled to prompt so I don't close it accidentally, which works fine, but earlier today I click 'yes' and it refuses to close...had to bring up task manager to close it. Same deal this evening.

Will give the computer a restart and see if this problem occurs again tomorrow...

It works fine for me, and I don't recall anyone else having that problem. I think that basically your computer doesn't like running Cumulus; you seem to have had more problems than everyone else put together - perhaps you should give up...

Out of interest Dave, was your Windows 7 an upgrade or fresh install?

In all my years of computing, and regardless of what Bill Gates @ Microsoft said, there is no such thing as 'plug and play' or a smooth upgrade. LOL If there was I would not have a job or all my friends calling me every day with another little proble on their Christmas laptop.

You think a clean install may help? (make my computer like cumulus more...)

What David says is true, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of a reinstall just in the hope that Cumulus would work better. It's more likely down to a particular combination of hardware/software/internet connection...

It's a lot of work doing a fresh install and often not for the feint hearted!

Sorry Dave I am not sure on your skill level, but if you were able I would suggest running a Virtual copy of Windows XP running under Win 7 -- that way you have a nice clean install of XP which CUmulus can run in with no interference from anything else.

I am not suggesting it as a long term solution but it would help us determine if you have compatibility issues with other software on your syste,

It's called Windows Virutal PC and Microsoft provide it to allow Win 7 customer to run software they are having issues with. I can vouch that Cumulus runs really well in Win 7 but there may be issues with your particular setup.

You need win7 Pro or above to have that.

I would always suggest a fresh install. It is a lot faster install as well. But you do then have to reinstall what you need to use, but sometimes that is not a bad thing. You end up with a much cleaner system ridding your self of old stuff you forgot you installed and removed etc..

I totally agree with a fresh install and I would always do it, however it is often not plain sailing for your average Joe

Yes, I agree. There are several good ones on the market, but best of all this one is free.

The only down side to all the VMs is you require to legally own another licenses (e.g. for XP). The MS offering you do not

David, are you really sure about that...

Do you not need to have (at least) Windows 7 Professional installed before you can install Windows Virtual PC and then Windows XP Pro... Thus, do you not have a license with Microsoft...

I know, I am picky, but I do not think that legally, you can install and run (if possible out of Virtual PC) that copy of Windows XP Pro without having previously install Windows 7...

Going back to the original problem on this thread, not sure if this applies in this case, but if Cumulus is in the process of uploading data/files via ftp as indicated at the bottom of Cumulus it has problems closing, I have noticed and understand. I therefore just wait for it to stop uploading data and close it then, if needed. Then it has no problems. Is this possibly the problem?

Just a thought.
