I therefore just wait for it to stop uploading data and close it then, if needed. Then it has no problems. Is this possibly the problem?
I think it probably is. Personally, I always wait for it to finish uploading before I close it - mainly because I don't want a half-updated site. But I assume everyone does the same, so maybe it's not that simple. On the other hand, I assume a lot of things about how other people operate, and I'm often wrong

Strange! I don't think I've ever had a problem closing Cumulus - and I've been doing it frequently while I develop my Linux AWS software. But I'm using Windows XP SP3 and that seems to run faultlessly. More recent MS offerings seem to have problems.

I agree with trying VirtualBox - seems about the best VM. Make sure you use the PUEL (personal user license) version rather than the open-source version or you won't get USB to work.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.
