Thinking of moving to Davis Weather Station

Hi All,
I am thinking of making a move and treating myself to a new weather station. I have been a big Ecowitt / Fine Offset supporter ever since my first Maplin weather station about 15 years ago and have been looking at a Davis Vantage Vue as a possible replacement. I dont need a display as I use MX and also have an old android tablet running Smarmens wBox viewtopic.php?t=19342

Can somebody help me out with what is the basic set up I would need in terms of a sensor array and is this as simple to set up in MX.

I have recently moved house and all my previously captured data is safe, so I would be starting again from the ground up with new readings etc. and hopefully a new type of weather station.

Any advice much appreciated.

Regards
Andy

Hi,
One option is the Davis Vue ISS (without console) and the Davis Weatherlink Live device. Cumulus MX can take it from there for your local dashboard, data, third-party uploads, website, etc.

Weatherlink Live will also send your data to Davis' Cloud Weatherlink.com where you will have a free account and able to view your latest data on the Weatherlink.com website "bulletin". You can also view the data on the Weatherlink App.

If you get a paid subscription Weatherlink.com account then you can also view all the logged historical data and charts, and able to log at 5-minute interval. Without a paid subscription CumulusMX will not be able to access historical data for catch-up in the event CumulusMX is shut down for any reason.

Likely quite a bit more cost, but the VP2 ISS would be a good upgrade from the Vue ISS.

Enjoy,
Paul

But Paul he is asking about an upgrade TO a Vue ISS from Maplin/Ecowitt station NOT to a VP2 ISS.

I think Paul meant as a consideration instead of going to a Vue which has its restrictions.

Many thanks for all your input. Although I like the look of the Davis equipment, and I can see the benefit, it is pushing the financial boundaries a little, and the Vue doesnt give me the extra sensors I have with the Ecowitt....without more additional cost.

Maybe on hold for the time being, but many thanks.

Andy

Have you looked at Weatherduino,
I was in a similar position and couldn't justify the cost of a Davis VP2, so went the weatherduino 4pro route and couldn't be happier. I picked up a Davis 6410 wind gauge off ebay - brand new no box for £72 and a 7852 rain gauge brand new old stock for £26. You need to be able to solder and obtain some of the components yourself but I found the whole process very enjoyable. Plus they are very helpful if you have any issues. Just a thought :)

Most of my Davis kit has come second hand or surplus stock off eBay! :)
