New addon: Live data on the web

I thought I would pull together some ideas I had and develop a simple and automatically updating Weather Console for your Cumulus Website.

It's simple, quick and easy to install. It will read the realtime data sent by Cumulus to your website and display core data in a clean format. It should be easy to customise to your own site colouring and layout, or you may want to leave it as is and present a clean display which can be left onscreen, constantly updating. The choice is yours.

Full details on the wiki....WeatherConsole

A live example here, although currently it is so cold, we have no wind or rain so little is changing. :D

I know there are several other similar systems out there, but some are overly busy/fussy/complicated. This goes to the opposite of that!

Enjoy

Added my first update already :o

You can now choose to 'pop out' the Console from the browser window and leave it running in the background.

Wiki updated with new version.

Tip -- as per note at the bottom of the wiki article, if you 'Watch' the article you will get an automated email when it is updated.

I've installed it on http://www.apeldoorn.tk/weer/wconsole.html but the realtime only gets once from http://www.apeldoorn.tk/weer/realtime.txt (at this moment the raltime ftp is off) but when I turn it on the realitme gauges on my regularer page er updated.
For some reason it doesn't pick up the updated realtime.txt in wconsole.html I made the path /realtime.txt all files are in the same folder as the realtime.txt :geek:

By the way in the script you've made a notation 'do not change lines below' but I had to do this for translation (not finished yet..) :!: I've only tried V1.0 so far. Now I'm hungry :D

Looks like your server is caching realtime.txt. If I use a browser to load realtime.txt it also never refreshes unless I force a reload. We should be able to trick the server though ;)

That's ok -- I only made the note to let people know there was nothing below they needed changed for normal operations

Also, I can highlight the changes between 1.0 and 1.1 rather than you having to re-translate, if you wish

Just my thoughts when I 'tick' the realtime.txt it's updated anyway I don't know how to solve this

David,

Silly newby question... where would I find my realtime.txt file ?

I've looked on the website where I FTP'd all the cumulus web files to and can't locate it anywhere, however my website is being updated whilst the base unit is connected to my PC

The realtime.txt will only availble on your server if you enable the settings in Cumulus for realtime see configurion->internet in cumulus

Well its actually on your server http://micro-heli.co.uk/weather/realtime.txt

300 seconds is way too long -- that is equivalent to 5 minutes, which means that you upload the realtime file so infrequently that it is useless. Typically people set this to 15 seconds

Although you can not really have real-time stats on the web, Cumulus uploads a tiny file (realtime.txt) with some key data in it -- by uploading this, say every 15 seconds, tools can use this file to show near realtime data.

Doing constant uploads to the web does eat into bandwidth and you probably have an allowance with your internet provider. a 15 second upload will use about 180Mb of data per month. Your bandwidth allowance is probably in the Gbs so you are using almost nothing by doing this.

Also, if you do not run your station console 24 hours per day, realtime is no good. Imagine if a user visits your website and sees realtime data that is 8 hours old.

Works ok in IE8, but I use FF and when you open it all data boxes say "undefined" the only way it opens correctly for me in FF is if I website hosting control panel and open it from there.
