cumulusutils and logging lightning

Post by broadstairs »

Having read the wiki I understand there is no graphing for lightning but it was suggested that it could be done once custom log files were available. I have the Ecowitt sensor and have had a go at a custom log file but as yet being new to utils I have not investigated the External Extra Sensor thing which I assume is needed to handle this.

Has anyone here done this yet with any extra sensors?

The custom log handling has not been implemented yet. And having said that, the external extra sensor may help partially only depending on what you want your chart to graph.

As soon as the weather turns bad I will start looking at it again.
Don't expect something soon.

I completely understand Hans, just thought I'd ask ;) . It is just one of the things I need to provide as part of my migration from WD to CMX on my website and I have quite a bit to do on that so whenever is fine with me.

I log hits to my MySQL server and graph it from there.

That is not the way CUtils works.

@broadstairs: FYI...

With the coming release of CUtils (v6.21.0; requires CMX 3.27.0) it will be possible to create charts on the basis of CustomLogs/Webtags.

If a you create a CustomLog with the webtag <#LightningStrikesToday> - the Daily frequency is best as it is a daily total - automatically a chart with the daily number of strikes will be created if the module is activated.

Default the CustomLogs are under the menu Extra. If eventually the user chooses a manual handling of those charts he can use that chart anywhere. Data will be supplied daily by the CUtils USerAskedData call.

Once configured, CustomLogs are a very powerful tool to chart any value available in CMX in any combination with other values.
A picture says more than a thousand words.

An example of a lightning chart can be seen on my site (menu=>Extra=>Custom Logs), take the Daily lightning in the DropDown menu top of the chart.
