Daily backup seems to have stopped

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Daily backup seems to have stopped

Post by Box »

Evening all

I may be wrong (probably am!) but I understand the CMX backup routine to be a daily one every night at midnight until you get to ten daily backups at which point the 11th is deleted so you always have the last ten days

In addition there is a backup every time you restart CMX

If that is right my CMX seems to have stopped doing daily backups on 29 Jun with the folder 20230619000000 empty and MX diags saying

error while attempting to read/delete folder: backup/daily 202306190000
Access to the path 'backup/daily/20230619000000' is denied

There have been 3 restarts in July so I have three backup folders for the 9th 14th and 22nd July

Everything else seems to be working normally

I only noticed because the MXDIAGS folder was getting large (I have umpteen copies of this error message)

PC is running Win 10 and CMX 3.25.2 b3245

I assume there was a glitch which prevented the 10th day cleanup routine and that has caused eveything to stall at 10 days data

Is this a simple fix - delete the empty folder, or all of the daily backups (presumably with CMX stopped) and let it sort itself out or do I need to do something more fundamental?

Thanks in advance

I would try to delete the folder manyally to see if it resolves the problem. Since you are running on windows, the issue might be that some other process (eg. antivirus) has locked the folder and it cannot be deleted without reboot. Also the problem may resolve itself by just stopping and restarting Cumulus.

When reading the problem again something caught my eye. Is there really differences in the number of zeroes in the foldername (4 vs 6) in the log or is it a typo in the message?

Code: Select all

error while attempting to read/delete folder: backup/daily 202306190000
Access to the path 'backup/daily/20230619000000' is denied
If this is not a typo it could indicate a bug…

Thought I would post a follow-up

Did not delete the folder last weekend as I was about to go away for a week and didn't fancy taking the risk of having to rebuild things or lose data!

Anyway, stopped CMX and deleted the folder last night so I could watch the midnight handover after the restart

Folder duly gone and the daily update produced a new pupulated folder for yesterday

I will check again tonight but I think that fixed it

Thanks for the help!!

Ok

Just to hammer this nail out of sight the system hung again on the next folder from june, so it created the next July one then failed to delete the oldest one

So I have now deleted all of the June folders assuming the same issue is affecting all of them

In 8 days I will know if this has worked 😊
