Weatherlink .WLK file issues.

A couple of years ago (March 2021), I had a wierd issue with Weatherlink which has caused it to not be able to read the .wlk files any more, the first symptom was opening up WL and it would generate an error "Cannot oipen station".
So I set up a "new" station and tried to import the .WLK files... after importing the files, WL would not show any data, and on restart, I would get "Unable to open station" again.
I have tried installing WL on different machines, the effect is the same, so I think somehow every single WLK file is somehow corrupted.
But here's the thing. I have been using Graphweather to create my custom charts for my website, and GW continues to be able to read the files!
What I had to do in the end was start anew with Weatherlink (now working fine, as long as I don't try to import the pre-2021 WLK files) and point Graphweather at two different database sources, so I still have a (more or less) continuous data series back to 1996.
I tried to get in touch with Davis to try and find a solution... perhaps unsurprisingly I got no response whatsoever.
(I tried to use Steve Loft's WLK importer to import my pre-Cumulus data, but it's not really working and CumulusMX is not seeing the data when I try to display historical graphs. I have looked for a WLK data editor, but not found one. I can't look at them using WL)
Has anyone else seen this wierd issue?
Are there any .WLK data file gurus out there?
I'd like to get this data sorted out so I can tidy it all up and properly import into CumulusMX, then give my website some proper love.
