Upgrading from CMX V3.6.12

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Upgrading from CMX V3.6.12

Post by laulau »

Hello everyone,
I return to the forum after a very long absence for personal reasons.
I want to migrate from Cumulus MX version 3.6.12 b3088 to current version.
There is a lot to read on the forum since this version.
Can someone tell me what are the important points not to miss to do this?
My station and my site have been pretty much functional all this time.
I don't use the standard website, my data comes from a database.
THANKS
Laurent

Hi,
I don't recall v3.6.12 but that would likely be about 3 years ago, and a lot has happened since.
My suggestion is to make a copy of your existing install. Download the current v3.24.2-b3235 and copy-in ALL the unzipped download. and run it.

After CMX is running go through all the settings to make sure you have it as you want, including any new features (check the various options as they may have additional sub categories).
Your dayfile.txt may not have some items in current dayfile.txt so run the CreateMissing utility to have CMX add those items.

The MXdiags files now have more information to assist in troubleshooting.

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi,
Upgrade done! :D
Have now to upgrade Hans's CumulusUtils tool and BCJKiwi's CumulusMXU template.
Perhaps some hints to do this ?
THANKS

Hi,

Good to see you back. That period of 3 years saw a lot of developments but CUtils is pretty stable now.
And while you are at it, you might want to wait until CMX 3.25 (which is coming up one of the coming days I expect) and CUtils 6.18 (which will be released shortly after) because of a technical dependency with that CMX.

In the mean time, if you want the exercise, you can install CUtils 6.17.3 which is OK (some issues being resolved in 6.18).
No special actions to be taken as far as I remember, just copy the distribution in the utils directory and run.
There is now a wiki as manual (comments welcome if any issue) which also contains the Release Notes (if you are interested). Note the changes in the Charts (ChartsCompiler) and the menu (System 2). Both require user files CutilsCharts.def and CutilsMenu.def for which Cutils....-example-for-use.def are in the distribution. Copy to the utils directory, rename and modify. See the wiki.

If any issues let me know.
Hans

Have already reported that to Mark. The clock was changed to user choice of 24hr or 12hr in this last release, so I guess Mark forgot that 24 was really 00 :D :D

Turns out that in JavaScript in browsers the US 24 hour date format uses 24:00 for midnight rather than 00:00 - weird! But the USA does have weird date/time conventions anyway

I'll change it to UK format which does use 00:00.

That is weird, as there is no such time as 24:00 - but the Americans likely have their own rules

The wiki clarifies a bit.
In variance with this, as of 2010, the correspondence manual for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps formerly specified 0001 to 2400.[6] The manual was updated in June 2015 to use 0000 to 2359.[7]
