Re: On why strangers speak strange English
Indeed, but they did not do the experiment and put it on youtube
And this is an English forum, it would be a little strange to make an argument for another language wouldn't it?

Dutch has the advantage of not being contaminated by so-called American English.
With so many of their programmes now watched by Brits I’m surprised more haven’t developed a yank accent.

Re: On why strangers speak strange English
Dutch as a language is a collection of words from all neighbouring countries with a grammar consisting of borrowed lines that everyone has forgotten and is being changed as I write this. As the British Roald Dahl and Agatha Christie rewrite, the Dutch student union is today giving an instruction on how to deal with the Woke waves. We can still read medieval English, I challenge you to read medieval Dutch. Dutch does not exist, English is taking over.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 3:04 pm Dutch has the advantage of not being contaminated by so-called American English.

Re: On why strangers speak strange English
While I agree US English has had an effect I for one insist on British English including all spelling as does my wife who used to be a legal secretary some years ago. Woe betide anyone who used US spelling in a legal document put in front of a Judge!!!!

Woke is a disease that needs eradicating asap. What they're doing to classic novels is disgraceful. I'm sorry to hear your language is being taken over by English.HansR wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 3:15 pm Dutch as a language is a collection of words from all neighbouring countries with a grammar consisting of borrowed lines that everyone has forgotten and is being changed as I write this.
