wh1080 produces wrong gust spike - need help

Post by wetterfrosch1971 »

Hi,

I have been running a wh1080 with cumulus 1 for over 10 years without any problems.
now the station produces a gust spike of about 30km/h above the last gust 1-2 times a day, although there are currently no major gusts.
the solution using the spike removal makes no sense, because if there really is a gusty wind, the real gusts above it would also be removed.
does anyone know this problem and maybe what it is?

many Thanks for help.

Remember spike removal is not an absolute value, but relative to the previous reading. Having said that 30km/h isn't a really big spike so I do not think there is much you can do other than try and fix the source - the station itself.

do you think the problem is with the wind wheel or rather with the console or the transmitter?

I put a couple of Toroids on the lead coming down from the weather vane and speed sensors that seems to help. Also Toroid on the USB Cable.

Are you not getting any Outside Temperature spikes?

no, I don't have any peaks in temperature.
the cable from speed sensor is shielded and the shield is connected to ground.

I found the problem, it was an electrical relay which controls a central heating pump.
when the relay switched, it caused the spike.
i have now connected a special rc suppressor to the switching contact of the relay and now the spikes are gone.
