CUtils showing too high sun hours ** solved **

Post by Gyvate »

on my site http://meshka.eu/CUtils48 the solar hours are shown as 27.2 hours for the 30-Sep-2022.
I found three entries for the same day in dayfile.txt  for that day => 9.05 x 3 = 27.15 made sense.
After removing two of the entries from dayfile.txt the 27.2 hours continue to be shown - I would have expected them to disappear and become 9.05 or 9.1 hours.
cumulusutils has run several times with option Website since the removal of the dayfile.txt entries but it won't make any change.
The website creation log shows no errors.
I've checked the related month file Sep22log.txt, but it has no double entries and the last entry 23:59 for sun hours is 9.05.
What am I missing ?

I am not really sure I understand what you are looking at.

I think there is no report in CUtils showing the solar hours on a specific day. If you show that it must be either a UserReport or The DayFile reader by beteljuice (which I advice for those who want to see all numbers from the CUtils website).

Could you explain what you are pointing at?

on the main page which usually shows the overview - select "sunhours"

the definition CutilsCharts.def is
CHART Sunhours Title Sun Hours per Year
Plot ALL SunHours As Column colour gold
EndChart

OK. Found it.
I presume you did this all today.

That is important because the daily data are only sent to the website once per day, either by CMX or by CUtils itself (for those data not sent by CMX).
The sunHours are in the alldailysolardata.json which is created and sent by CMX.

You can regenerate and send it again using the Utils/Upload Now menu choice in CMX and tick Include regenerating and transfer of daily graph data files. This will regenerate the required file without waiting until midnight for the rollover and the corresponding generation of the datafiles.

If this does not work, could you send me your dayfile.txt please.

let me see - Utils/Upload option doesn't exist (CMX build 3221), but a "reload dayfile" option which I chose
there is no "Include regenerating and transfer of daily graph data file" option available in the Utils/reload dayfile option window.
I finally figured that by "upload Now" you meant "FTP/Copy now" ....
The uploaded alldailysolardata.json still contains three times the 9.05 value for the Epoch time of 30-Sep-2022.

The change was already made yesterday resp. day before yesterday - so there were at least one if not two midnights in between.

So reload day file and FTP/Copy now didn't work = didn't produce the wanted result
Restarting CMX finally worked ... - so in the end it was not a CUtils issue but a CMX issue.

In theory the change of dayfile.txt should have been settled over midnight when the CMX web json files were recreated -
they were recreated, I could see from the time stamp, but the content (for the day in question) hadn't changed ....

Well, Sorry for not typing the correct menu choice, that was inaccurate, but you might have tried/guessed what had been the correct one.

And indeed, this was a CMX issue, the fact that the change in dayfile did not bubble through the system at the next rollover is something Mark might have to look at and if he does not jump in here you might want to make an issue in the CMX thread.

But please note : a change in dayfile requires time to progress through the system. Both CMX and CUtils send these data only once per day to the server. The Dayfile Reload and FTP/Copy now help you to get it done sooner.

The dayfile is only read by CMX at start-up.

If you edit the dayfile using the built-in editor, then those changes will be reflected. But if you edit the file externally, then you will either have to restart CMX, or use the "Reload dayfile" feature - that is what it is there for.

@Mark: yep - got it
but somehow the "Reload dayfile" and an adjacent "FTP/Copy now" with the file upload option wouldn't produce the result.
Neither was a new .json file created nor uploaded. The old one wasn't uploaded either - could see with the time stamp on the web site.
Only a restart did ...
So maybe this "Reload dayfile" / "FTP/Copy now" (with the "Include regenerating and transfer of daily graph data files" option tagged) doesn't always work - at least in my case it didn't.
Not that I'm very worried about it - as the restart did the job.

When you run reload dayfile, you should get a confirmation message saying how many records were loaded...
LoadDayFile: Loaded 4757 entries to recent daily data list
