Multiple Copies of Cumulus 1 on same Machine?

In setting up a template site, I want to run a second copy of Cumulus 1 along side the other one. Getting its own feed from the weather station itself is easy since I use VirtualVP, but I don't know if I would run into other issues like perhaps registry settings?

Steve, do I have a problem with this or is all the updated the software self-contained?

Currently, on my XP box I have c:\Program Files\Cumulus I would install the second copy to c:\Program Files\Tempate

This is not attempting to run both Cumulus1 and Cumulus2.

It shouldn't be a problem, the installations are self-contained and don't use the registry (apart from the usual standard uninstall info).

Kevin, at one time, on my old XP Pro computer, I had 3 Cumulus running, 2 Cumulus1 and 1 Cumulus2, all through VirtualVP.

Each copy of Cumulus was installed in its own folder, such as K:\Cumulus1-1 (for the first Cumulus1), K:\Cumulus1-2 (for the second Cumulus1) and K:\Cumulus2-1 (for the Cumulus2). I encounter no conflict nor problem.

Already setup. Only "issue" if you want to even call it that, is that they have the same system tray icon, but its not that big of a deal. Once it is setup and running I don't need to touch it any more.

Box is headless (no video, keyboard etc..) so I don't watch it... just collecting data so that the new template is a real as possible rather than symbolic links from the other site just like someone who would load it for the first time.

Kevin, you are using PHP for a lot of your scripts... Why not use a file such as 'cumuluswebtags.php' (which contains all the tags produced by Cumulus) and have the file read by all the templates (with a PHP include/require)?

Just a suggestion ... rather than running multiple copies of Cumulus... :?

I already use a webtags system. Been using it for more than a year. It is XML based sort of. It actually is a data file that is sent from the workstation to the website, but is parsed by another php script that outputs the data in XML format.

http://cumulus.tnetweather.com/cumulus-xml.php - Exports XML

http://cumulus.tnetweather.com/cumulus-xml.php?desc - Exports a self-documentation of the data (missing some descriptions as I didn't bother completing it).

I have a number of sites that use that data along with the collected realtime data.

http://cumulus.tnetweather.com/ - A PHP template similar to what Cumulus generates
http://cumulus2.tnet.com/ - A prototype system that is completely run by the xml and realtime stuff.. there were 2 other sites where I was picking up realtime.txt data from remote sites (one in metric the other in English formats).
http://test04.tnet.com - My development site where I experimented on how to create this into a wiki based system. This site doesn't have anything loaded to it, it simply grabs copies from the other site.

Purpose of second cumulus:

Setting up the template demo site which will be basically what it will look like when it is downloaded, I needed to make sure that it gets the real data from a real cumulus station without snarfing it from another site. Otherwise I can't document/test it.

Hence the second cumulus system.

I plan on generating a new webtags system though as I have had problems with the XML idea. It sometimes is slow and doesn't work correctly for reasons I've never been able to figure out.

I would use the other one that you mention, but the data is not formatted as I am accustomed. I prefer the data to be stored into a single array rather than individual variables. Much easier to include into multi-function PHP scripts.

Kevin, thank you very much for your concise information - clear as mud...

Not really, I did understand your point and it make a lot of sense ... considering that I did something similar (running 2 copies of Cumulus) when I started adapting the Cumulus HTM files to my PHP needs... :)
