Davis UV Sensor

Hi

I was given an old UV sensor that was surplus to the users requirements and fitted it yesterday to my existing Davis VP2 setup. It worked straightaway but the reading I am getting this morning is 5.0 - according to the forecast today UV should be between 0 and 1. Is the sensor faulty or am I reading it wrong or assuming its the same index as the Met office forecast , when its something different ?

Its January, I,m in the UK so would expect any UV level to be very low, even in direct sunlight.

I would suggest something is wrong with it. I'm in the UK and at this time of year readings would be very low generating a UVI (UV Index) value of maybe 1 or perhaps 2 in very sunny conditions, I'm not sure what your value of 5 is, if it's a UVI value then it's plain wrong. My current UVI is 0 using my Ecowitt sensor.

A bit more info is really needed as to whether this is a UVI value, and if so it's a duff sensor I'd suspect.

It's a proper Davis UV sensor. I see new ones are £400 so it's something I wouldn't be able to afford so when I was given an old one I thought I was in luck.

But, despite me reading the Davis manuals I don't think it says what figure it transmits. So I can only assume its zero to 12 ish. So far I've had zero for night time straight up to 5.0 in bright sunshine this morning.

Definitely a dud. Even this far south, UV maxes at the moment are about 0.8.
