.ini files

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

.ini files

Post by Texsky »

Hi guys.

I hate to keep asking such basic questions, but how often do the *.ini files get updated?

Thanks,
Bobby

Hi Bobby,

Cumulus.ini is updated each time you save a change in Settings.

The following are updated at the daily rollover -
yesterday.ini
month.ini
year.ini

The following are updated whenever a record is broken -
alltime.ini
monthlyalltime.ini

I think today.ini is updated in line with your logging interval.

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Once again, thanks for the reply.

I took my Vantage Vue down for cleaning on Jan. 2. That's when my month.ini, year.ini and alltime.ini files were last updated according to the time stamps. Monthlyalltime.ini, today.ini and yesterday.ini all appear to be updating normally.

Now, when I cleaned the VV, I neglected to clear the spurious readings from the data logger. So is there a way get that data out of all the files where it shouldn't be? And for that matter, exactly what files would need altering...if possible? And it goes without saying, but what should be done to get the above mentioned .ini files updating once again?

Not being an expert on either the data logger or MX, I really appreciate the assistance. :)

Thanks,
Bobby

Hi Bobby,

You can edit your Monthly Log files through the Admin Dashboard. Go to Data Logs > Monthly logs. Load the log file for 2nd January and then find the incorrect entries and edit them.

You may also need to check your monthly, yearly, all-time records in case you have created a new record associated with an incorrect reading. If any of these need editing you then select Edit from the menu and choose the relevant file to edit.

I may have given you incorrect information regarding month.ini and year.ini. I think these are only updated when a record for current month or current year is recorded, so they are probably working as expected.

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Would you mind posting the dates of your *.ini files? Mine are all over the place...Jan. 2, Jan. 7, Jan.9. What's also perplexing is that when I look at the Records page, when I choose "This month", I get days from December 2022 mixed with January 2023.

I'm sure this is all user error, but nonetheless, I'm getting a little annoyed by it all. So many mystery problems.

Nonetheless, thanks for your assistance.

Hi Bobby,

I'm away for a couple of days so can't look at this until I return.

In the meantime, if someone else would like to help Bobby then that would be greatly appreciated.

Trevor

Sure, my \data .ini files as of today January 9, 2023 are dated:
alltime = 24/12/22 when we had the latest alltime record.
month = 09/01/23
monthlyalltime = 04/01/23 when we had a January record
today = 09/01/23
year = 09/01/23
yesterday = 09/01/2023

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi Trevor,

Safe travels.

Paul,

Thanks for the reply and the information.

I see that your month.ini and year.ini files are up to date. Mine, for some reason, are stuck on Jan 2nd. And as I said earlier, on the Records page, when I check "this month" and this year", I get data from 2022 thrown in. But when I check "This Period" under "Records" and set the date boxes to Jan. 2023, all of the information is up to date and, it appears, accurate. Also, the NOAA report for Jan. 2023 includes all of the days up to the 8th, so that seems to be good as well.

Ultimately, I have to find a way to get the false readings out of the month and year .ini files, find out why they got corrupted, and then get them updating again with accurate information.

Thanks for the help.
