Data has stopped being uploaded

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Data has stopped being uploaded

Post by Paul C »

Hi

Everything has been working fine until 1715hrs on New Years Eve, when my MX powered website has stopped uploading and hasnt worked since

I cant event connect to my website via FileZilla - constant error message " connection closed by server"

Any thoughts on how to clear this please

I little research would suggest I have too many connections OPEN, but if that was the case how would I close any connections ?

I have closed CumulusMX and event re booted my PC, but no change

Many thanks

Assuming you have no issues with your firewall then contact your hosting company to get help with the issue in Filezilla and get that fixed. Do you have access to your hosting site via some kind of control panel you can login to, if so are there any error messages on that?

Once the Filezilla thing is sorted I would expect that CMX will then start to work.

An interesting observation is that the realtime.txt and realtimegauges.txt have a date of 1/1/2023 and a time of 11:03 ("timeUTC":"2023,1,1,11,3,6", in realtimegauges.txt and "01/01/23 11:03:06" in realtime.txt). There is some difference with new years eve 17h15.

The real-time updates use a permanent connection. I suspect that carried on working for a while whilst new connections for the regular uploads were being refused.

@mcrossley: yes I guess you're right. But my observation was done today while the realtime files were from 1/1/23.
So they stopped as well at the end after keeping appearances for 24 hrs.

Thanks for the replies

No firewall issues that I know off ? can see why I have had a year of trouble free uploading then it stops.

I am with 123reg - I have started a support ticket on NYE but obviously they are on holiday until tomorrow, so it could be a while before I here anything I think

I can access my Control Panel via logging into my account and see my files but only occasionally, looked yesterday nothing, this morning I could see them but not recently, so perhaps some intermittent error

I take it there is no way I can close any "connections" myself

@Paul C: does you provider have any limits on the ftp server?

Normally providers configure their servers to cut of long connections and oblige them to reconnect (my provider does), CMX does do that so maybe it is some additional constraint? It is possible the provider reconfigured the FTP to add more security? Or imposed quantity limits?

Not that I know of.

I've managed to log I to my control panel and upload realtime file. Took ages !!

I think it had a limit of 8 open connections

Really should have something visible to close them all, would solve the issue very quickly.

Indeed

Will see what the support ticket produces.

I just don't like not having my website working, very frustrating.

Update

My website started uploading again late morning and has been working fine ever since.

I have made no changes and my website hosting company have not read my support ticket or replied.

My thought so far is that on their return to work today they had an error which they have cleared. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Well, if all problems solve that easily it is not the worst provider.
They just should take measurements for the holiday ;)

I must admit that some years ago I used 123.reg as well but after some issues I moved. I could not recommend them at all. At the time I heard of others who had issues with them as well. My current hosting company has been great.

I am having a similar issue. Note that I am a very recent addition to the Cumulus MX crowd and still finding my way. I have an Ecowitt HP2551 set up, and connected to a couple of online services. Very recently I got Cumulus MX running on a Raspberry Pi (Cumulus Pi) and got the supplied Cumulus website running on a separate Pi (not yet publicly available) (Website Pi) a few days ago. After struggling with file permissions I got FTP talking between the two. I noticed today that the Website had not updated since 11:10 am yesterday. Checking the FTP log on the Website Pi, I noted that although the Cumulus Pi was continually trying to connect, it was failing. I had changed something carelessly and reset the FTP settings in Cumulus and got the connection running again, but nothing is updating. (Yes, I have selected to use the supplied default web site - double checked and re-saved). I ticked the box to have files deleted before being replaced, but to no avail. I then renamed the websitedata.json file to websitedata.json.old to see if a new file would be created, but nothing at all. I have rebooted both devices. Any thoughts?
Thank, David T

@DavidT - switch on FTP logging and let CMX run for a bit, then post the ftplog.txt file along with the latest MXDdiags log file.
