All time records data
Hi everyone
Like many others who own a La Crosse unit (WS2355) I have had problems with misleading readings appearing on Cumulus
On my first two days (4th & 5th Jan) using Cumulus I had many high readings eg Low Temp -28.9c and a High Temp 72.7c, Sydney Australia does get quite warm but not these extremes
My all time records screen is just amazing to look at
After reading many posts from other users I have gone into the daily log and adjusted the data. t
By the way, the cause seems to be that I was using a serial/USB cable from console to PC, I have since changed to just a serial connection to PC (You must be happy Steve) and so far no bad readings
However Steve can you let me know how I can adjust my "all time records", I have looked at the Monthly log and the data is fine
I have trialed a number of weather software and I am very impressed with Cumulus you have done a mighty job creating this program Steve Well done

Re: All time records data
Hi Brian, and welcome to the forum
You can manually adjust your all time records within Cumulus -- Click Edit, All Time records. If you are not sure what the values should be then a bit of detective work on the dayfile.txt will give you the data.
See this post for more details....https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 771#p16771

Re: All time records data
Thanks David
Very quick reply
I have just made one change as you suggest it works fine so I will do the detective work as you say.
Is there a way that I can add my data from the 1st to the 4th Jan so I have this years records up to date on Cumulus
By the way, I believe you are in the beautiful Cairngorms, My family visited Scotland in 2008 it was just fabulous we actually went to your area visiting Aviemore then going on the "Funicular" up to the top of the Carngorms
I have your WU site as a favourite
Thanks again

Take a copy of your Cumulus folder first, just in case! I've never tried it myself
Yes, indeed I am almost at the foot of the mountains. You know I have never been up the funicularBy the way, I believe you are in the beautiful Cairngorms, My family visited Scotland in 2008 it was just fabulous we actually went to your area visiting Aviemore then going on the "Funicular" up to the top of the Carngorms

Re: All time records data
Another possibility: look in your \Cumulus\backup folder. It contains up to 10 automatic backups, all having a name containing date and time of the backup. Is there a way that I can add my data from the 1st to the 4th Jan so I have this years records up to date on Cumulus
If you have one from the 1st of January you may use that:
- stop Cumulus if not already stopped
- open the backup folder and copy all the files it contains to your \Cumulus\data folder (and say Yes to overwrite)
- restart Cumulus

Re: All time records data
Thanks David and Dane
I think your correct David the secret is in the "Day log", as I only started Cumulus on the 4th of January the "Backup" file only goes back to that date, so I am going to have to populate new days in the "Day log"
Sounds like fun but I need to do it to maintain accuracy for this year.
I have been living in Sydney for 40 yrs and last year was the 1st time I actually went to an event at the Sydney Opera House
It's like the Cairngorm Funicular its on your doorstep and its possibly taken for granted
Cheers

Re: All time records data
I think you'll have to do it manually - you've probably already guessed that! There are some ad hoc ways of getting some other formats into Cumulus, but no-one has done anything for La Crosse data, as far as I'm aware. The formats of the data logs are in the help file and the wiki - good luck!

Re: All time records data
Thanks Steve
Ive made the additions to the "Dayfile" and everything seems to be ok
Do you think I need to make additions to the "Janfile" for the period 1st to 4th?
As I stated previously I am now connected via Serial cable, the only hiccup Ive had is early this morning the computer must have restarted and I had BIG Wind Speed and Wind Gusts readings, since then its been fine... any comment on that Steve
Cheers again to all

Re: All time records data
You can if you have the data and want to add it, but it's not essential.Arnie wrote:Do you think I need to make additions to the "Janfile" for the period 1st to 4th?
La Crosse stations apparently have problems with RFI. Even when running with a direct serial connection, 'garbage' values still appear (the weird serial protocol probably doesn't help). Cumulus tries to filter out really silly values. As I stated previously I am now connected via Serial cable, the only hiccup Ive had is early this morning the computer must have restarted and I had BIG Wind Speed and Wind Gusts readings, since then its been fine... any comment on that Steve

Depends on where the 'spike' was picked up.Arnie wrote:.. As I stated previously I am now connected via Serial cable, the only hiccup Ive had is early this morning the computer must have restarted and I had BIG Wind Speed and Wind Gusts readings, since then its been fine... any comment on that ...
Some people have said that fitting ferrite collars to the wx - PC lead helps.
I know that my old tv that I use for my cams can influence the wind readings if the base station or cable feed are too close, especially if there is a sudden change in contrast
I suspect things like mini flourescent table lamps etc. could also cause problems.

Re: All time records data
Arnie,
I too have a LaCrosse WS-2355 and had the same problems with it.
Firstly, the usb-serial adapter just doesn't work reliably. In short, it's useless.
Secondly, if your weather station base unit is too close to any sources of rfi (in my case, 2 pc's, one of which is my web-server), or I suspect, household electrical wiring, you could have problems with wireless signals from the remote unit.
I've mounted my station on the wall a couple of feet above the desk, which solved the problem.
You might also like to read the passage on signal reception here: http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/support/dst.php
Although it doesn't relate specifically to our issues, I feel it gives an insight into how well the antenna systems are set up in these units, bearing in mind the base unit's antenna seems to be used to receive both the 433mHz wireless data and a VLF (77.5kHz) signal to synchronise the clock (if you're in the reception footprint, which we're not, in Australia).
Also, note that if you operate wireless then battery life will be about 10 to 12 weeks, if you're lucky. You might see some odd wind and outside temp readings for about 24 hours before they give up. I am considering using a small solar panel to 'float' the batteries during the daytime to get better performance from them.
I hope this is helpful.

Some very good information
I certainly gave the USB connection the flick
I am getting a few "drop-outs" so your advice on moving the console will be taken onboard
