HP10 WittCam web camera

My Ecowitt HP10 Web Camera arrived yesterday and I am just starting to play around with it. All set up and working and uploading to Ecowitt.

Lots of useful info here.

https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=44393.0

I can grab an image directly by going to http://192.168.1.237/capture (where 192.168.1.237 is the IP of the camera)

Now it would be nice for CMX to be able to use this directly. However when I type this into the webcam settings I am told it is not a valid address.

I know I can from a Raspberry Pi run a cron job to wget the image and then ftp it to my website but it would be nice if CMX could do it directly.

The webcam settings are the HTTP address of a webcam image on your website, therefore giving an internal network address that is not accessible from the website (your router firewall will automatically block the attempted connection as it should) makes it an invalid address.

Not all people have webcams so I would think the chances of CMX automatically uploading a local image is probably way down on Mark's development list, especially as you can save a picture locally and add it as extra FTP upload file in Extra Web Files to your website.

I agree not all people have webcams and I suspect even fewer have the HP 10!!

However WeeWX accepts a local IP address out of the box and uploads the image ok as does Weathercat (I run both)

It does mean that someone without the working knowledge of wget, ftp and cron jobs would not be able to incorporate the HP10 into their site.

It seems that an ftp server (not sftp) is going to be added to the camera at a "later date"

But using Extra Web Files settings does not involve Wget, cron jobs or any other additional FTP knowledge other than that to set up the website. They are simply updated at the interval time.

Will extra web files work for http://192.168.1.237/capture ?

It's something I could add to the Todo list, but it would probably be a simple image upload with no overlay capabilities.

Or, use a software like IPTimelapse to grab an image from your local IP and have it save to your machine at a set interval (same as your CMX upload interval) and get CMX to upload the image?

I decided to do this as a test...

HP10, linked with ecowitt account and then IPTimelapse .... it would be great - if I used windows hah.

Trying hard to find an alternative that can run on linux as native, I'm not leaving a windows computer on just for the weathercam :D

Although it's showing the weather that's currently from WU, it would also be nice to know direction the cam is pointing (w) ... although I could overlay that as a watermark

currently www.stewartonweather.com / maps / weathercam from the menu.

Very basic setup and not really enough data for a timelapse yet.

Motion can do all that and much more. https://motion-project.github.io/motion_config.html

yeah I was looking towards motioneye and have rolled out a container- not sure if I want to go down that route and ideally I'd be looking to ticker or display weather information on the bottom of it. I'll have a closer look between motion and motioneye, maybe motion eye is more for security cams \o/

You can do all that. Images at https://www.hosiene.co.uk/webcam/ are motion generated. The weather data shown is updated every minute.

The timestamps on those are 2009? :D

Seriously though - can I ask how you did the weather banner?

Sure that wasn't the time 20:09 written in military style?

There's an http management interface, and I just call the relevant endpoint to place the text on the image.
