Extra Data Logger

Post by Oakhill »

I was interested if it was possible to have 2 base stations logging the information from 1 transmitter? I have a Maplins Weather Station, would like one to remain downstairs so we can see the weather and would like another to hook up to the PC for live weather updates.

Yes

I bought two (one for spares) and currently I have one as the live system for Cumulus and the other one I use to 'play' with Cumulus V2. Both receive their data from the one transmitter. It has not caused me any problems that I am aware of

Where do you get a spare base unit? I don't want to spend another 60quid on another complete system. Well it was an xmas toy.

Hello Jack,
I have read a number of posts in here where some do indeed use more than one base station receiver.
The reason why you can have multiple receivers is that the outside transmitter is just a dumb transmitter; it just transmits its data every 48 seconds and that’s that. Just like the local radio station.
The receiver just sits there listening for the signal. As long as they are in range of the transmitter, there would be no limit to how many receivers you could have.
I guess it all depends on how deep your pockets are. :D

I bought two complete systems

I know these people do spares -- http://www.clasohlson.co.uk/Product/Pro ... =138075543 But they do not do mail order (which seems so strange). However, they want 50 notes for a spare screen and for a little extra you could get a complete spare system from Maplin

Maplins have discontinued these units now and are now selling the WM1091 insted, if you go to the original Maplins web page it just says unit discontinued.

I have just had a look at the Maplins website and it looks like they are still selling it but this time at £119.99
On this site I can not see any discontinued sign or anything like that.

Yeah I know.

My station cost AU$180 last May and I could have purchased it on ebay for AU$140.

But I wouldnt've been able to have the anemometer replaced on the spot if I didn't buy it from the store.
(The sales guy actually pulled one out of another box and handed it to me) Can't argue with that.

Hindsight tells me it was a good decision not to use ebay.
(Still got 4 months warranty)

That's interesting.... so what if the chap next door goes down and buys one too.... if there is no means of setting channels on these things then both base units would receive the same data from both transmitters.... ??

Just hope no one else close to me gets one :)
