Rainfall Last 24 Hours Wrong with 3212

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Rainfall Last 24 Hours Wrong with 3212

Post by The Dalek Hunter »

Since upgrading to 3212 all three of my stations have reported spurious rainfall in the last 24 hours.

According to CMX I have had 12.53 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

This is not reflected elsewhere ie total rain, rain today, this month, this year etc are all correct.

My WeeWX station - https://wx-watch.co.uk/weewx/
and my WeatherCat station are fine - https://wx-watch.co.uk

There is obviously a bug in 3212

I'm starting to wonder if there's something not quite right with this..

Cumulus has somehow, obtained 0.2mm more rainfall today than what my console says. Also, my WLL bulletin agrees with my console, 28.8mm. CMX says 29mm.

Also, the console says the 24 hour rainfall is 31.2mm, whereas CMX says 29.2mm.

Let's have a look at your MXdiags file then.

I have checked my various rain data from Oct 15 to Nov 3 = 20 days
VP2 Plus ISS with tipping spoon:
Cumulus1 with Envoy/USB logger = 8 days with rain and a total of 58.2 mm
WeatherlinkPC with same Envoy/USB logger = 8 days with rain and each day and total exactly the same as Cumulus 1
CumulusMX with Vue console/WiFiLogger = 8 days with rain and each day and total exactly the same as Cumulus 1
CumulusMX with WLL = 8 days with rain and each day and total exactly the same as Cumulus 1
Weatherlink.com from WLL = 8 days with rain and each day and total exactly the same as Cumulus 1

I also do a manual CoCoRaHS reading at 8:00 am each morning.
In the 20 periods 8:00 am to 8:00 am there were 11 periods with rain for a total of 57.0 mm.

A slight difference (1.2 mm) between Davis and CoCoRaHS which is understandable due to location and tipping spoon vs manual gauge.

I am pleased with such result.

Enjoy,
Paul

Your rain counter at 21:45 was 602.2 and at the start of the day it was 573.2.

Which is 29.0 mm, so I'd say CMX is correct in the daily total.

What is your archive interval on wl.com? The last tip before that was between 9:35 and 9:40, so wl.com may not have added it in when you looked.

As for the console - is the clock accurately set? You had a rain tip just after midnight, so if it's a bit slow it may have counted that in yesterday's total.

I'd have to extract all the rain fall for the last two days into Excel to check the 24-hour value - I'm not going to do that tonight.
