Can't load log files

I had a reed switch on my Davis VP2 go bonkers, giving me 12 inches of rain in less then an hour. I know that's been happening a bit around the world this summer but not at my house :) Rain gauge has been fixed but now I need to fix my data log. 12 inches of rain is several years worth in Phoenix , AZ USA.

I would expect to be able to do this by going into Data logs and then load 08-2022, find the appropriate lines and hit edit. Problem is nothing is loaded when I hit load for August or any other month. Also if I go to the setting / Program setting, nothing comes up there either. I looked at the .int file to see if there was somewhere to give a path to the log files but I didn't find any notation.

I'm on the Lynx, everything is in the, "CumulusMX" folder. Logs do exist in the, "data" folder. How do I steer the log editor to the log files?

Thanks in advance

Hahn

All the paths are hard coded to use the data (and other folders like MXdiags etc) folder inside the parent CMX executables folder, you cannot change that.

If you cannot even load the settings pages then you have something wrong in your installation, or the user you are running CMX under does not have rights to those folders.

I'm accessing the program via web browser and the local LAN IP address. I don't believe I've ever setup user accounts and can't find a place on the page to login either on the Mac computer that I usually access it from or directly on the Linux machine that it is running on. So I must have a problem with the install.

It's usually just blindly running on an unmonitored box used just for this. I can also boot it into windoze if I need to do something in the windoze environment which is happening less and less. Main windoze app is an interface to a robot call filter box, in fact that is the main purpose of this box. Running CMX was a happy use so that the box doesn't sit unused for ever. Once a month I check in on it and update Linux and usually CMX is telling me I'm not running the latest version and I update it.

My update process is to unzip the file, move the backup, data, interface folders and .int file from the previous running version and fire it back up. So this must not be a best practices method. Right now I'm running build 3196 (current on 8-1-22) and it's telling me that 3202 is available. How should I install 3202 for a proper installation?

Thanks

That sounds like a good upgrade process, apart from copying the interface folder, you need the new interface folder from the current zip file.

Yup, it was the interface folder. Just updated to the latest build and kept the new interface folder and I was able to load log files. However the Wind speed/direction/solar gauges that I have setup on my Mac don't work which is why I was keeping the old interface folder. I need to figure out what changes I made so I can transfer them to the updated folders. Until I figure that out, I worked on the log files then went back to the old interface folder so I could have my gauges.

I cleaned up a hours worth of lines but doesn't do much good. Everything is still out of wack. This is my secondary weather program so I don't know that much about it. I run WeatherDisplay on my Mac. When I got the Weather Link Live box I put that on my Mac and put the old console on CMX as a backup because I refuse to pay Davis for my data. I'm able to access CMX on my Mac through the browser, there's some data on there that I like better than Wdisplay like the gauges and the sun hours I get from the solar sensor.

With Wdisplay I can easily correct monthly and yearly totals. I haven't found that on CMX. I loaded the day file and corrected the yearly total on the last 20 or so lines but I don't hold much hope of that working. Is there a way to correct the monthly and yearly totals? Or am I just out of luck till January 1st.

MX calculates the monthly and yearly totals by adding up the daily totals in the dayfile. If you have those correct, then the monthly and yearly should be correct. If you started using MX part way through the rain year, then you can use the yearly correction in the dashboard to amend the years total to include the missing rain up to the point MX started.

I agree though that the rainfall handling in CMX isn't the easiest thing to handle!
