No Is Raining alarm and LastRainTip not updating

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

No Is Raining alarm and LastRainTip not updating

Post by rogerthn »

We did get some rain on the 17th of July, 1,3mm but no alarm.
I do have Is Raining trigger: Use station rainfall for 'Is Raining' trigger selected.
On Alarm Setting "Is Raining" has Enabled, Notify, Email and Latches (1 hr).

Checking a bit more (grep -R LastRainTip CumulusMX/*) I do e.g. get
CumulusMX/web/websitedata.json:"LastRainTip":"8 July",
CumulusMX/web/websitedata.json:"LastRainTipISO":"2022-07-08 06:05"
From mysql Dayfile
SELECT LogDate, MaxRainRate, TotRainFall, HighHourRain, THighHourRain FROM Dayfile WHERE LogDate LIKE '2022-07%';

I just tested it by poking a screwdriver into my old Fine Offset transmitters rain socket, it registered 3.3 mm or rain, and the Is Raining alarm also triggered. So it does seem to work.

But re-reading your message, are you expecting the alarm to trigger for rain events in the past? It will only trigger when the event occurs.

No, I do not expect rain alarm for rain events in the past.
I'm not 100% sure but I do think that I did enabled the Is Raining Alarm prior to 2022-07-18 09:32, rollover 9am/10am.
Last rainfall 2022-07-08 06:05 also makes me puzzled.
We'll see, we might have some rain on Friday.

I've now connected my GW1000 to a more "dedicated" AP and so far, not a single Error or Invalid in MX-diag.
We do need some rain for more than one reason

Isn't the alarm triggered by a non-zero rain rate? Your max rain rate for the 17th was zero. So I wouldn't think the alarm would have been triggered.

But there is 1.3 mm in mysql Dayfile and in MX-diag I do have
2022-07-18 08:50:00.403 Writing today.ini, LastUpdateTime = 18/07/2022 08:50:00 raindaystart = 329.3 rain counter = 329.3
2022-07-18 09:35:00.215 Writing today.ini, LastUpdateTime = 18/07/2022 09:35:00 raindaystart = 329.3 rain counter = 330.6
There are no Writing today.ini between 08:50 and 09:35, after that I do have one every 5th minute.
Let's blame the WiFi ;)

Yes, but if the tips are well spaced you won't get a rain rate - which is what triggers the alarm.

Thanks for the log, I have extracted the data from your station from it and replayed into my test install and I cannot reproduce this error. I think it must be some setting you have in your config that I do not.

Could you make a copy of your Cumulus, ini and put dummy values in for any passwords etc that are private and then PM it to me?

OK, found the problem. The Is Raining alarm is not setting a default email message. So if you have email alerting enabled it crashes. :bash:
